How am I disadvantaged ?
I can take my money elsewhere and I am open to that as I posted earlier.
I am not aversed to change, I aspired to an Evo, but I will change that if the Evo no longer meets the criteria.

It is possible that they will turn off buyers like me, but their product will sell in larger numbers than if tailored to my niche.

They will still need to do a better job of marketing because even though Lancers are now more popular than ever around here since the 2008 model, when people ask what I drive and I say a Lancer, first response is usually a what ? Followed by who makes it ?

Being so unknown here why turn off long time buyers ?

I was with my father when he drove his first new car out of the dealership, a 1986 Lancer. He is on his 3rd straight Lancer now, I am on my first Lancer but 3rd Mitsubishi car. I have had other makes before too, I can do it again.

There is a lot of silliness in this thread. Clearly many people don't know how the Prius system works, don't understand that it's not diesel, and don't comprehend the benefit of an electric engine. The post where a guy said that people who wreck these cars are going to get electrocuted made me snicker. Seriously, hpow do we up with some of this kind of stuff?! Without having the complete data of what the car will be, we have no ability to judge it fairly.

That said, there are a few things that seem safe to conclude: If the Evo becomes a hybrid-diesel, there is possibility of it being discontinued in the US. We don't buy diesel cars here; they are just not popular at all. Also, since we love the current niche car (revs, big turbo, catless, power), it is going to be hard to entice current Evo owners into becoming XI buyers when modifications to that powertrain are going to be a whole new ball of yarn. There are a host of VIII and IX guys that still won't accept the X, and this upcoming idea is an infinitely more radical departure from the formula than that Evolution ever was.

Mitsubishi has very talented engineers, and it could well be a great car. But I have no intention of buying a diesel.

although I hate that the 4g63t is gone and the Evo is changing, if the tuners out here want to keep their day jobs, they'll figure out a way to make a diesel hybrid fast. It's not Mitsubishis job to make the car fast from te factory anymore... Now it's all on the tuner.

Whatever... To me the evo died with the 4g63. Don't really care that much about them after 2006... Sorry if that makes me a jackass...

Jackass......nope.....close minded maybe....Lol.....no I agree that maybe the true evo dies but I have owned a 8 and a 10.....loved both but the 8 felt more raw and like a drivers car. The ten kinda felt like it drove for me. I am on my second 8 now regretting getting ride of my first one.

My point was you would be SOL in terms of the new EVO...but I digress. I understand completely where you are coming from though....but like I said, if there would never have been change in mindsets, we would all be driving 5k pound pushrod v8's.

Like I said before, If there is an increase in performance and fuel economy, sign my up.

Some are fairly popular, like the VW Jetta/Sportwagen and Golf TDIs. My understanding is that emissions compliance makes it hard for most manufacturers to sell non-truck vehicles in the US, and only VW and Mercedes (Blutec) have the IP/technology to make 50-state emissions-compliant diesel cars.

Premium diesel cars (BMW 335d) are rusting on lots because they can't give them away. The market overseas is substantially higher than ours is.

I am going to hold off on judgement until we see what actually happens; however, I will say lets not forget what gave rise to the cars like the evolution in the first place. After the 1970's we saw a need for better mileage vehicles with lower emissions. For a while these cars were real dogs and the performance vehicles were slow as hell. Then we started seeing manufacturers squeezing amazing performance out of vehicles with these efficient engines. Who would have thought in 1980 that we would get well over 300hp out of small 4 cylinder motors and achieve better emissions and mileage. Times change and dedicated engineering will figure out a way to give car enthusiast what they crave while meeting the demands set by government. Maybe the first few cars will suck; but, I'm sure they will figure out what to do fairly quickly.

It was not V8 push rods, it was not 70's emissions.

The people who used V8 pushrods to power their cars in the 60's and 70's still do. (I guess Ford had the Coyote engine finally, GM tampered with a proper engine when the ZR1 came back in 1989)

The Evo came to be due to the lack of success by its predecessor the Galant VR4 which was born out of WRC Group A homologation rules.

It was decided a better handling package was needed and the Galant hardware was fitted to the Lancer. Ford went from the Sierra to the Escort, Subaru from the Legacy to the Impreza.

They had to build at least 2500 examples to be able to enter the car in the WRC.



The 4G63 was around in the Lancer EX 2000 Turbo and the Starion in the early 1980's.

i understand that things change but i think the evo died after the ix. the x is ok but to me its not realy an evo. its missing some of the fun factor and feels like it was made for overweight americans when u sit in it. if they r going the diesle hybrid rout then just end the evolution name, give it its own new name. let the evolution die with some pride.

I'm hopeful for the next EVO. My wish list is;
Hatchback,
Turbo diesel is the main motivator with 7 gear semi automatic gearbox (paddle shift)
The electric motor is a KERs system using Lithium Ion batteries,
Light weight carbon fiber and aluminum,
Quick handling like the IX,
30+mpg,
11 sec stock

I've always found it amusing how fans of a car with Evolution in the name are so adamant about the car never changing. Had an VIII kinda miss it but mainly because I haven't had a chance to mod my X. I just think it's best to wait and see what the future has in store. If you think you current Evo is best then keep it no one is gonna force you to buy a new one.
