I just spray everything with some sticky grease in a spray can.. :D We noticed that cars with leaky sumps do not rust.. LOL

I intentionally left the pump on the outside to check how the replacement parts hold up. But now I will put it in the trunk, along with a big fire extinguisher system and battery. Actually I used the spare tire space to carry a spiral cell optima turned on its side and that worked a treat for years.

I just removed all the sticky stuff under my car. I should just improve my rock shield :)

Those "trailer queens" will be laughing as they head out the gate on time on their way home while your frantically trying to arrange a tow when your car inevitably doesnt survive a track day at some point haha.

I used to trailer my car to the track despite being able to drive it because theres nothing worse than trying to find out how to get home when u blow something at the track. least with a trailer you have that insurance.

yeah i was talking 'good days' lol. yeah AAA service is getting bad these days, especially in not-densely populated areas and drivers being in-demand. It took 2 days for me, towing and track venue schedules to work out. I dont mind if someone steals my 'broken car' after the event. works for the thief and me lol
Various types of local competition, traffic and weather conditions...could be problematic if towing IMO, especially if you just need french fries or the bathroom! if I dont need to live within city limits I would have a car hauler. well maybe, i dont want a truck daily driver

If it makes you feel any better, I have ZERO shielding on my Evo 10 after taking the dust shields off and I have put an insane amount of heat through it with no issue. I did wrap some things with heat tape, but not that arm joint.

Even the plastic zip ties around the heat tape have been fine.

I am that guy that does like two laps of the pits before parking after a session though.

Track Sprint is my issue. You just go back to your grid spot after a lap. It can probably work if i set up my radiator fan to stay on (I dont remember if i get airflow on the passenger side)

People really under appreciate the amount of heat soak that happens at AutoX and Trackcross events when its 1min of 110% then zero motion.

Ive been seeing interesting contraptions to direct air through PVC tubes using a leaf blower just to keep things cool. I'm thinking of making something like a E with the ends blowing into the brakes and radiator. Would just slide it under the car between drivers and let it blow as long as possible.

At a big event in Montana we got so much heat into the wheels that water just evaporated off within seconds and by 5th runs the tires just went off hard.

Last two times I've had cars towed, I wasn't allowed to ride with the driver. Have fun finding someone to tow your car home and ALSO have someone come out to get you. I drove my car to my event yesterday, but I plan to trailer it. I fell a bit pretentious, towing a street car, but it's good insurance, IMO.

If the event was local i would often drive but have a trailer available within a short drive if required. if it was an out of town event i would trailer there and back but drive the car around during the weekend as a street car. it was just having that insurance to be able to get the car home in a worse case scenario.

I think we also have different ideas of what a trailer is haha. our trailers are generally open air and barely fit the car where as alot of people in USA and Australia etc who have to travel very long distances typically use very large triple axle haulers which would border on the same size as my house in which case i get the issues regarding logistics and stopping etc.

True. Yesterday, I saw what looked like a street car in a trailer big enough for three cars, by the looks of it. They had a tent with ladder popped on the top of the truck. The trailer probably had living quarters in the front, judging by the windows. That was just nuts. I couldn't imagine where in hell I'd park/store that thing, no matter where I was LOL

AAA is cheap insurance, for 4 100mile tows a year and I always ride along. Pocono Raceway was 99miles from my garage in Newark, NJ so it has helped a lot :) So that covers that area
For tracks farther out, maybe researching or talking to locals where to drop the car off is an option. Risky definitely, but I'm sure this is not a rare thing
I've seen tow vehicles and trailers become the issue though. Not sure whats the probability of each scenario. AAA can cover trailers too :)

AAA had me waiting a day and a half for a tow once (from home, luckily, not at the track) and hadn't let me ride along. My last time using them was about a year-ish ago. Maybe that's changed. FWIW I changed to a different insurance group that allows 1000 miles per year. I haven't had to use it yet... knocking on wood.

I was able to ride with my driver when my engine blew at Thunderhill. It wasn't a branded AAA truck though, local guy. Was really nice and he obviously had a lot of experience towing cars from the track.

That was a pricey 150 mile tow.

I would love a trailer but don't want a truck. I was hoping the Ford maverick was going to have decent towing capacity. I could use it to tow, if I raced gokarts.

That's weird, maybe another CA thing. I've been using them for over 20 years, from back when they HATED racers and show cars. Now theyre all-customer focused... a service-evaluation guy even comes to watch the contractor company do his job and be all nice to me. They even offer cold drinks!
Earlier I got towed from a dragstrip (did autox) and the driver was giving me a hard time "you were GD racing!" and called homebase on me. He got nicer after that call. These days they are prepared to tow lowered cars too...if youre closer to a city i guess

From my experience, it's up to the driver. As I posted above, that driver had no issues with towing me and letting me go with him.

A couple months later I called AAA to tow my Evo from my driveway to the shop. I had to argue with the driver for like 20 minutes to get him to put it on the truck because he swore up and down that they don't tow modified cars. I actually had to basically bribe him with 60 dollars to do it.
