+1 for this. I used electrical conduit and some longer bolts. It all took about 6mins to do. SO worth it.

Haha well that's one way to do it. If you want a bit more clean look I can shoot you the link for the billet standoffs I used. They're pretty cheap.

Hmm so when they say adjust for straight up down in the beginning, what nut are they referring to? Or is yours in gear?

As you can see I can't raise it without hitting the console, so that's something I'll look at after abusing this setup.

There's 4 adjustments on the shifter. One is the length adjustable link that's for longitudinal throw, it just need to be adjusted to the right length and tightened. The second is the arm that link connects to. There's 3 settings IIRC that you can use to change how long the throw is. The third is a nut behind the shifter shaft itself, that one shouldn't need to be touched as it's the rest for the centering spring to make sure the spring has equal tension going both directions. The last one is the two grub screws that you set to limit lateral throw so you don't overshoot gates laterally. Those are easy enough to set, just turn them in until when you hit them is where you push forward/backward to go into gear, then back it off a half turn or so for some clearance.

Mine is in neutral in the pic. I'm guessing they're talking about the 3 settings for throw length on the arm.

Ya the neutral rest is what I'm referring to. I got all the left right adjusted but if you look yours is straight whereas mine is tilted back slightly. The nut referring to this is the big nylock up top there? The directions didn't get into any detail there.

Ayoustin Apr 27, 2020 11:17 AM

Ahh, I see what you're saying now. No the large nyloc nut on the back is just meant to hold the "pivot shaft" secure in the shifter, it's not for any adjustments.

If your neutral position is back I would think something is amiss with the cable the connects to the bottom ball on the shifter shaft. The position of the cable should determine where neutral angle is on the shifter shaft. If you disconnect that cable the shifter will flop back and forth longitudinally.

Well I did break a corner off that nylon cap getting the thing off, so another is on the way but it still slid on there. This part is what I'm referring to:

"Tune the shift range 5 Speed Gearbox
Pull off 1 Pan of the connection rod
Adjust the spring stop under the unit for lever straight up"

Then it says:
"Select the 3rd gear manually. To select it, pull the gearshift-lever easy backwards"

Que? lol. Not the best translation attempt I've seen on instructions. So I simply put it in 3rd, adjusted the rod so it just fits, then adjusted those two tiny hex screws for left/right. So I skipped something.

I didn't do anything with this pic:

Oh man, haha it's been so long. I bought my shifter almost 3 years ago so that's a buried memory.

The bolt in your photo would be the 3rd adjustment I mentioned. I think they're saying you can bias the center of neutral by moving that left or right? I don't recall touching that on mine either but you can see the slot the bolt can move left or right in poking out on both sides of the washer. IMO having the cable clipped on without slack is fairly important and I'd definitely address that before trying to adjust the shifter.

One other thing to check would be the turnbuckle linkage that connects the lateral throw arm to the shaft fork. I set my shifter up and clipped that on last with the nuts loose. After I had everything adjusted where I wanted it I tightened the lock nuts.

I still have my console/cup holders, so you can't see a thing :D Best $3 mod ever

I had to leave the top off and some trimming. I can put everything back together again, if I really need to, though. I didn't do anything that isn't reversible. Pics aren't uploading to EvoM right now. I'll try again later.

Id love to see some pics of a taller shifter with the center console in. SM requires full interior but notching is allowed.

kaj Apr 29, 2020 02:42 PM

My goal was to keep the cup holders and arm rest/storage area. My 5spd fits pretty much the same. If someone wants to keep the top portion on, I guess you could just not raise it up as far.

Wow I'm more shocked to see the 6spd. Didn't realize they still survived this long in track evos. I remember my 6spd shifter was already taller than the 5spd but yours is definitely even higher. I'd still want to run the full console though. You think a smaller lift could be achieved with the console still intact? Or is there just no room.
