for the lancer, this is a direct replacement. no additional parts needed.

evo is a different story. evo's have a different shifter setup and requires either a new retainer, or to cut your stock shifter to use the stock retainer. This is true for all aftermarket evo shifters though.

If it were me - i'd buy a new one from mitsubishi and leave the old retainer on the stock shifter, just in case you wanna put the stock shifter back on.
You can get a new one from a mitsu dealer or from kartboy or hirevperformance .. it should cost about 20 bucks. Part number # MR246296

If you were going to cut it .. id use a dremel with a cutting tip .. then jbweld it back together.

thanks for the heads up on the retainer.

BUT:
Don't tell people to jb weld their shifters back together, it will probably break @ an unoppurtune moment. also it will take a dremel forever to cut through a shifter. buying a new part makes so much more sense.

is there a write up somewhere on how to install teh shifter? or is it simply take old one out and put new one in, no special steps involved
