FS : 2003 Evolution $22,500 17k
Bump. this is a great deal. Only if I had waited I would be jumping all over this. Yeah it sucks that the resale value on the EVO is dropping like fly. I feel sorry for the first people who got hit with the mark-ups.
Abalto,
When you trade a car the value of your trade lowers the taxable amount on the new car. For example: If you buy a $30,000 car here in Ma you will owe $1,500 in taxes (5% sales tax). However if you trade a car worth $22,500 towards the $30k car your taxable amount drops to $7,500. That works out to a total of $375 in taxes or a total savings of $1125. Trading a car for $22,500 is equal to selling the car privately for $23,625 not to mention you don't need to deal with the "test drivers" and flakes. You get out of the car clean with absolutely no strings attached. It also makes it really easy if you still owe on a car because they handle the payoff.
Questions?

Guys, in the real world I don't think the resale is dropping like flies. On EVO-M we have a bunch of low ballers and people who have a budget for a Lancer Rallisport but want an EVO (not that there is anything wrong with the L-RS) who make it seem that way. Dealers would not be paying $22,500 on a car they will turn around and sell for $23,500. They are going to get more then that. Michael I would not take less then $23,000 for the car in a private transaction. Keep in mind, when you sell it privately there is still some liability.

It works out for me even better in NY because the sales tax rate is 8.75% = so $21,500*8.75% = $1888. So in essence the dealer is giving me $23,400.
I guess me selling the car privately for $22,500 is equivalent to the dealer giving me just $20,700. I suppose I am off the the dealer afterwork today to negotiate a deal ... I just didnt want a new TL .. I would rather have a used one and save a few bucks.

Acura dealer is now offering me less for the car maybe its because they are selling their car at invoice and their basically making nothing on the deal.
I would rather sell the car privately because I am borrowing my fathers car for a while and don't need a replacment vehicle immediately.
Would $22,250 do it for somebody ?

The Acura dealer has officially offered me $21,300 - $21,500 for the car. Plus I get almost a $1,900 tax savings on the new car. So essentially they are giving me $23K+ for the car.
However right now I would rather sell it privately because I am borrowing my fathers Eclipse GTS for a while which he doesnt drive. So if I sell the car privately I can take my time buying a replacement vehichle ... probably being a 2004 TL.
