4g63evoeight's IX RS 2L build thread

well here it is, finally have time to start working on the car since i graduated college last week

anyways, i looked high and low for a IX RS and finally found this MINT one owner RR RS right outside of Syracuse, NY.
http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/74/img7647edit.jpg

Stock the car ran 12.98 @103 and it stayed stock for the rest of the 2009 season since i was tapped out from buying the damn thing

anyways, 2010 rolled around and it was round one of mods:
BR v-band TBE
megan o2 housing
BR Shifter bushings
BR front and rear motor mounts
BR Race FMIC
BR UICP
BR mini battery kit
SynapseTurbo LICP
Tial Q BOV
Hallmann MBC
Walbro 225 pump
PTE1200's
Exedy twin HD
STM clutch fork stop
Tune on pump 93 (360hp/350tq) and e85 (425hp/420tq@30psi) by JR @theShop on a dynodynamics
car then ran a best of 11.93@115 at the etown evo vs sti event and i won my class with a sparktech ignition

back here at the home track the car would do consistant 11.96-11.98 on pump @113-114 mph and went a best of 11.64 @118 on e85, this was all done on goodyear eagle f1 tires.

good year considering i had zero issues with the car whatsoever

fast forward to 2012.

i added:
FP antisurge 84mm housing (loved it)
Shearer Fab o2 dump
Nitto Nt555R Drag Radials
Had a friend of mine adjust the e85 map for me and that resulted in 400hp/420tq VD the night before i ran my personal best at LVD.. 11.35@120.46, 3rd time launching with the nittos and i cut a 1.60 then i got the boot for no safety equp

About after a month after that pass doing a pull on the street, the 1-2 shift fork roll pin backed out . Once this happened the car sat for about a month in the garage and with having family overseas i had no time to work or tinker on the car and pull the tranny. So i had the car towed to one of my good friend's in CT, named Raif, owner of Raif Race Trans so i had him build/freshen up the trans with new syncros, sliders, VIII 4th. I had the intention of running at the etown event again.

well anyways, trans was done, went to pick the car up and on the way home, going up a hill in 3rd gear, 3000 rpms and 10psi @partial throttle the car blew up. shot rod #3 right thru the block, front and rear. Now im pissed.

got the car towed home and on my x-mas break i pulled the engine and tranny out of the car. took the head off, expecting the worst.. head was good, thank god! The car sat for a few months as i didn't have time to do anything on it with it being my final semester in school. Well actually, i ordered parts.

Now it was time to start collecting parts and figuring out what i'd do for a motor. I found a dude selling a bare evo IX block in CT so i picked that up. ordered pistons, rods, bearings, new crank, valves, springs+ retainers, etc.

new build consists of:
Bottom end-
-Built standard rod 2L, mitsu crank, manley TT rods, and wiseco 10.5:1 pistons
Block was bored .20 over and o-ringed
-AMS balance shaft
-new oil pump and all the other essentials
assembled by RRT

Head
Stock port
Supertech springs and retainers
Supertech intake and exhaust valves (STD size)
GSC S3's

Turbo setup.. for now
Just want to get the car up and running for now
stock IX turbo
ported hotside by Curt Brown
Ported Ex mani by Curt Brown
Shearer fab o2 dump

trans/clutch
freshened up trans with VIII 4th
exedy twin> triple conversion, still need to order.. this week!

Ever since i bought the car my goal has been to get it into the 10s with the stock turbo, and clearly im not giving up. Once it dips into the 10s, the stock turbo is coming off and a tubular setup is going on the car. still havent decided which turbo, the hta86 or the new 6466 (leaning towards this)

I also plan on running the car at the Buschur shootout since i bought a truck to tow the car with (2000 f250 powerstroke 6spd!). i'll be running with the stock turbo in the stock appearing class, i know competiton is going to be tight and i'll probably be the only guy with a stock turbo, who know how long i'll last, im quick on the tree

here are some pics, i'll be updating this thread within the next week or so, as im waiting for little parts from mitsu

towing the turd home

pulling the dead engine

curt brown ported goodness

getting assembled

seeing how the stock VIII wheels look (mounting MH slicks on these)

bumpsticks

car will be tuned on stock ecu and Speed Density.

goal for with the stock turbo is a 10.8x @125-127.. going to shed a little more weight out of her too, before i run it. I'm also only going to have to 1 or 2 chances at the local track before i get kicked out so i'll be running through the 1/8mile till i get down to consistent 6.9x's

Like i said, i'll be updating periodically

-Peter

Looken good man! I ended up blowing my motor out the front and back too when we all got back from that weekend at E Town. Looks like me and you may have a little stock turbo fun at the shootout!

i'll be happy if i make to eliminations, which i think i will. i'll be happy running test and tune once i get eliminated just for the pure fact that i won't get hassled for running to fast

in all honesty, i'd say no no diff in spool or power.. if your getting it for the surge issue then get it.. if your looking for it to make more power or spool i'd spend your money else where.

i sold the turbo with the cover to a friend of mine, he made 365ish ( ithink) on dynotech tunings mustang on pump fwiw. i know have a stock cover IX turbo

Should be a sweet build! I'm a bit jelly of all who graduated this time around, as I only have a year to go.

This seems like a nice little grad present to yourself!
