I shortened my throttle cable finally... Really simple with a dremel cutoff wheel, pliers, torch and a drill... The way you guys go about removing weight i figured i would mention it. Its a lot easier then making motor mounts and dash beams into swiss cheese

okay like i said... pretty simple. make sure you read it over first. and don't throw anything away til you are done.

all the modifications are to the pedal side of the cable to keep the underhood view clean.

first you need to take off the cable. obviously. i did a couple of length mock ups and the one i liked the best was shortened to the lil clamp closer to the bulk head fitting.

anyway you need to measure from the bulkhead fitting to the very end of the cables end stopper make sure to pull all the slack from the throttle body side. mine was about 10 inches. after you measure cut off the end stopper thing and remove the bits. the bulkhead fitting twists on and off.

after that take a knife and cut the black coating off up to the point where you want the bulk head fitting to sit. the fitting was about 2cm deep, from the end of the black coating measure out 2cm mark it and carefully cut through the metal. there is a Teflon liner so unless you go ***** nilly you souldnt hit the cable itself. trim the liner flush with the metal.

then slide the bulk head fitting back on. measure out the length you wrote down in the beginning. here is where you will cut the cable. measure twice and cut once... i some how cut about 3/4in to short so it took massaging in the end to get the throttle plate to close properly. anyway, cut the cable to that length and slide the bits back on in order.

now with a drill make a hole in the end stopper large enough for the cable to fit back inside. slide it back on the cable and with a torch heat it up while holding it with some pliers... when it looks ready crush it back onto the cable. refit the cable and ensure the throttle plate closes within the range of the cable adjustment.
the end

i didn't plan on doing a write up so i didn't take any pics... its pretty straight forward and if you take the cable off to look it over you can't really miss what i talk about... if you feel uneasy about it go to walmart and buy a bike brake cable and try it there first... they are basically the same thing.

No I have not. I want to try it on the old one. I just haven't had time. I should have my new gas tanks today and I would like to have the hole fuel setup done and back in along with the rear and what not by the end of the weekend. Then maybe I can fart around with the cable.

Fair enough i suppose... I have roughly 200 hours of time on just getting my car to run... I finally got the wire tuck done, the starting and charging harness done, and the entire engine is ready. Now its plugs timing and i need my buddy to return my 4bar and she should run... Of course then i have to reassemble the rest of the car...

So much for a small winter build... :-(

Haha don't even get me started on a small winter build. My car should have been done months ago. I'm a few grand over budget and it still is not done. I look at my first post in this thread and I ask my self daily Wtf did I do and where did I go wrong. Haha Wtf happen. Now i am hoping to be done with it in Time for Ohio.
