1992 Galant VR-4 and 91 GSX

My name is Mac and I am from Memphis, Tn.

I currently own a 92 GVR4 860/1000 and a 91 GSX automatic. I bought both bone stock.

Since owning the GVR4, I have installed a ACT 2600 clutch, Fidanza flywheel, and KYB adjustable struts all the way around. It also has new ball joints and tie rod ends. Next thing on the list is to repair the worn out clutch pedal assembly.

The GSX is bone stock and I bought it with about 77k miles on it. It is an automatic ABS car with no LSD. It currently needs new valve seals.

I have a number of performance parts waiting to be installed including fuel, exhaust, and a 16G turbo. I'm trying to decide which car to build first.

Whichever one I build, I'm planning on using an Evo 8 ECU with a conversion harness.

Which one would you guys build first?

Man those are both really nice. Everyone seems to be going auto these days so the 1g gsx it is!. The galant is a personal favorite of mine because I have a pretty heavily modified 7g galant.
Nice pick up on both rides. have fun!

Yeah automatics are definitely the in thing for the 1G community. Even a lot of the GVR4 guys have made/are making the switch.

I would build the 1g and save the Gvr-4 as a nice driver. But that also depends how much you plan on modding it, I hate seeing Gvr-4's that get cut up or too heavily modded.

You guys wanna know why there seems to be an auto kick? Funny how shops been saying they aren't fast for years upon years then the dog box came out. People are cheap and don't wanna pay the price for top notch stuff so they try to go the cheap route. Funny though how guys like Kiggly and a few others found a way to modify the stock auto trannys to make them last. Hell Kevin's car is one of my fav cars to watch go down the track cause its just nasty. Another reason I know of is because people don't shift right. People don't know how to powershift like they should. I know people who can shift a stock gear box like a dogbox while using a clutch. I mean there is a technique to it I guess, Idk never figured it out myself. But its funny how one shop tinkers with the idea and all of a sudden its a fad.

I completely agree with you. The vr4 is more of a collectors car. I would keep it as stock as possible with minor upgrades. They both look nice and good luck to whatever you decide you wanna do.

Special place in my heart for the VR4. I had #129. But that car was just to scary and needed to go.

If I did mod the GVR4, I would not hack it up. My goal would be a nice reliable ~300 awhp.

Like others have said, I'd mod the GSX and leave the VR4 pretty much alone.

I would stick with GSX.

BTW: Look how fast Hondas are with Standard Transmission. Speedfactory Civic 8.08

The other side is that the automatic is easier on the driveline. No slop or shock.

Here are a few shots of the GVR4. It was in rough shape mechanically when I got it. Front axles were bad, bad tie rod, completely blown suspension, oil leaks, bad clutch, etc.

Just picked up a 399 Evo MAF. Still need to get a knock sensor, ECU, and a few other parts for my conversion.
