Love the build, the setup, the whole car! so sorry to hear what happened The most important thing is your ok and walked away. I know the feeling, even in cars with 5XXwhp it feels like its just to much to look down at the gauges even on the steering wheel column. Tom could you please shoot me a PM with the cost of building one of these bottom ends, I may be wanting one very soon.

Merry Christmas from a very satisfied TSA customer, again glad to hear your ok.

Thanks Dan. Yes I got lucky.

Thanks Luis. Yes the cold weather is what really made it worse for sure. I did not realize what i was driving either. Its no longer street friendly it seems. This setup is one where you have to pick where you do the pull very carefully now and give room for error. This is why it kind of makes it no longer fun to drive on the street if you have to be so cautious everywhere its boosted. the fp black was nothing like this.

If you send me an email ill tell you where to go if you want to see where it happened. you can see the grass inprints where it almost hit the tree and where it launched from one side of bank to 50ft down on other side.

it left a 50ft~ burnout mark before it got sideways. my one friend said that the blizzaks once they heat up they grab and i think thats what happened. the tires were cold, and the burnout got them hot and the car was sideways and when it grabbed it grabbed sideways.

i think the only way to maintain control sideways in AWD is to stay in it, but i paniced and left off gas and thats when i lost full control.

Yes this is true. I cant believe i didn't turn the mbc down from the old setup. I just rushed getting it out even though it was 1 year of being down, and now its back down again. it sucks. i will be way more careful now.

Hopefully i can set it to 28psi and it doesn't have any boost creep issues or anything and it doesn't spin.

Now I'm a little more cautious and know the level of power I can handle. GL getting her back together.

Here is what happened to me

damn that is very severe! did someone Tbone you or did you slide sideways into something very solid?

Exactly this. Once i get it fixed, if i feel the car is driving me and im fighting to keep it on the road every time i get into boost im going to use it for the track only or downgrade to something else like a hta86. Never in a million years did i expect a 6466 to be this much different then a fp black. this car is now no longer fun to drive. the next time i go into boost im going to be so scared. im going to take it somewhere where i have enough room to do 360's if i lose control again.

I tuned a car similar to mine in Ohio at the shootout where he made 770whp @ 33psi and when we turned it up more it was very crazy no doubt, but i guess i didnt get the feel for it at the time being in the passenger seat. it wasnt spinning clean like mine either, it had wheel hop in 3rd when it spun. I do remember having to take a breath before each pull though. the car made your chest cave in from the tq.

I think the main problem is the cold temps right now and the cold roads. But thats the thing, i like to take my car out in all time of the season so if the car is to the point its to dangerous to boost due to traction it really makes it no longer street friendly.

Thank you! Happy Holidays! I had some sketchy moments in my fp black setup prior to this also, but never at this kind of speed. The Black barely had enough torque to spin 3rd for a slight moment but this spun 3rd like the black setup spun 1st. that is why im really almost thinking i made the car to powerful for my own good and actually ruined its ability to be fun on the street.

When these cars spin its not like RWD, its weird. I feel a lot safer spinning in RWD. AWD seems to have a mind of its own once you get past that point of being to sideways and the car has traction and is hooked its over.

If I were paying attention to the road i would of noticed the car sliding and let off. by that time i feel the tires would of been warmer from spinning and i wouldnt of had this issue, but i am only guessing because i only got one pull out of the car.

the place this happened i floored the old 2.3 and fp black setup over a thousand times and never lost traction in 3rd before ever there.

aside from all that, the driveshaft shop carbon fiber driveshaft is amazing. i couldnt even feel the shaft rotating under the car. i never felt the car this smooth before in my life. the only thing that needs modded is it uses a solid u bracket and not the stock bushings anymore, and hte bracket slightly hits the exhaust and causes a high pitched vibration when it rubs. i suspect it just needs a slight dremel, but i think im half crazy, because i cant wait to get the car back out again and feel it. of course im going to turn the boost all the way down this time and give myself plenty of space incase it trys something dumb on me again.

Tom, very glad you are OK and the car isn't cracked up too bad. Not that it would have necessarily helped in your situation, but autocrossing is a really good way to explore the limits of a car and learn what it will do in different power-on/power-off situations. It helps break some of those bad street driving habits when at the limits of traction. I would recommend participating in a few events to learn the car - with the boost turned down of course. It is also a safe way to really enjoy the car.

I figure i owe you guys a picture of the damage after all the talk about the accident.

Here is the major damage the car has that concerns me the most. I power washed the bottom of the car today and thoroughly inspected the undercarriage of it and etc and it looks good (this is a older picture i snapped the day of the accident). The control arms are ok, the stabilizer bar for steering is ok, everything looks good. no damage in major areas.

The frame rails that run beside each side of the engine are straight and unharmed. the only thing that got twisted up is the front U shape that mitsubishi calls a "headlamp support"

so everything bad i can see:

wheels/tires bad
oil cooler twisted up to the point im not reusing it
front support stuff twisted up a bit
driveshaft shop bracket bent quite a bit
side skirt damage / ripped off
entire front bumper destroyed
FMIC end tanks bent shut almost
lower pipe bent shut almost
upper pipe / lower half bent shut almost
all 4 wheel fender covers gone or chewed up severly.

Not sure what its going to cost to fix but now im going to guess about 4K.

I thought about that. I need to put myself in this position again in a safe area and learn how to correct it so i can avoid this from happening again.

I am sure that scared the crap out of you, but I think you are a bit too worried about the power of the car. I think with some wider tires with more grip you will not spin as much, and it will be easier to control it....At least I hope so

Saw the video of the first start up and was excited to see what it will make........I was talking about the build with a friend of mine and then I saw that the car was hit.

Glad you are ok bud, could of been a lot worst.

Guess you can modify the front frame of the car now .

GL Tom.

Cheers.

I made a video for you guys that kind of explains it and shows some of the damage. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask and i will try to answer as best as i can. I dont want to share the place the accident occurred just yet, but i do have pictures of it now. the dirt /grass hill the car launched over was about 10ft high.

I was able to air the tires back up and they hold air. The tires were just thrown off the wheel. Im glad for that.

The hallman mbc took 8 full turns to close, so i was running some semi high boost during the pull id imagine. the wg has 21psi springs.

i never felt so much fear in my life at the time. im over it now, but it definitely scared the crap out of me!

Ya it has blizzaks on it right now. I will probably go back to RE11's like i had before. I dont know if i can fit 255 on the wheels i have now but if i can i will.

I used to run 255/35/18's. Potenza RE11

Take your pipes to a muffler shop and they will be able to bend them back out with their pipe expander in 2 seconds. I had to do that with my FMIC due to bad shipping, 2 seconds later they looked like new.
