Heresy! Why is the Evo not the dedicated track car?

Building up a miata or something?

That track surface looked horrible even though you say it wasn't as uneven as it seems the surface doesn't look grippy at all. Needs a new coat of asphalt to make the tires stick.

 

Dammit! A Miata? NO! Every time I go to the track/auto-x and sixty five miatas come out of the woodwork, I have to sit down and drink some water to avoid throwing up! Haha, no I am building a '93 RX7 with a LS1. For a couple of reasons. I love the Evo too damn much to risk effing it up on the track. It is too nice a car. I could have gotten my hands on a 2.1L Evo 8 to turn into a race car, but I decided on the RX7 instead. It will be ultimately lighter and more reliable with a better chassis balance (50/50, as opposed to 60/40). Also SLA suspension all-around. And better aerodynamic properties (lower profile, smaller frontal area, less boxy, etc...). Don't get me wrong, I love LOVE love my Evo, and it is cool as *** to bring it to the track and spank the **** out of Porsches and Corvettes, and have people coming over to look at it because they have no idea what the hell type of Civic they just got railed by. But, objectively, the RX7 should be ultimately faster.


Yeah, the track wasn't exactly smooth. It was okay in most sections but there were a couple sections on the back straight that suck. At one point in the video, you can see me counter-steering over a SH!TLOAD of bumps coming into that hard braking zone at the end of the straight. It gets a lil scary there. I dunno if you've ever been to Nelson Ledges, but it has apparently gotten kinda rough in the last couple of years. And apparently it is better now than it used to be! They are scraping some money together and using it to patch up the track a little bit, but what it really needs is a full re-paving. But, since it is a small track on a freakin' farm North of YOUNGSTOWN (of all places), that probably isn't going to happen... I would guess... But, who knows. The ridiculous part is, it is primarily used for motorcycle racing. I mean, I am all for letting people commit suicide however they want, but that seems like an awfully obnoxious way to do it.
