Hi everyone. Been on these forums for years, always lurking while finishing college and getting my career started with never any time or money for an Evo.
Well, a few months ago I had to suffer even more watching my brother pick up an Evo IX in a horrid state of neglect with the intent of restoring her back to glory.
Call it fate, but he started a new career and didn't have enough time with so much work that needs to be done; enter me.
Luckily despite the awful exterior, the interior is in great shape and she runs like a champ. The engine also appears to be rather unmolested other than hard UICP w/ HKS SSQV and a God awful Megan exhaust.
My brother started the basic maintenance and I am finishing it. Following that will be basic bolt-ons and tune before the body work begins.
Here are my initial updates and "mods" I am planning:
So without further ado, I present... The Ugly Duckling . I will update with more pictures soon, but it is like 10 degrees out and I am cold.
Got to love 4 different colors
Pictures of the D2 Coilovers that I might have rebuilt:
And the busted radio bracket:
Stay tuned!

that paint....lol this thing is in desperate need of help. There is all kinds of people out there, some with no respect for cars. First order of business is stripping and restoring the body I presume?
I don't get it, electric blue is one of the nicest OEM colors in my opinion. I still can't get over how badly some people can treat a car.
First order of business is making sure she runs well and won't grenade. Judging by the outside, I can only imagine the neglect of basic maintenance. After doing all standard items for a 90k mile car, I am going to completely go through all of the suspension to address any issues and have the rolling chassis in good shape.
With the extent of body work needed, it is going to be a long and expensive process so I am taking it one step at a time.
So I had a little bit of time this weekend to button up a couple small items.
I was able to get the OEM UICP and BOV installed, relocated the radio to prepare for the gauge and also started pulling the rat's nest of wiring from the prior owner's audio system.
The car seems to run smoother with the recirc'd BOV but it is still breaking up in the upper RPM range. Will have to pull the plugs and see how they look even though they are less than a month or two old.
Fluids and gauges supposedly being delivered tomorrow so hopefully next weekend I can flush the whole car and get some electronics installed.

Did you pay like 7k?
Missing the front strut tower bar.
Yikes looks like a salt belt state car. I cant imagine the under body.
So slight update: Replacing the fusible link fixed the issue for a few minutes then the fuse blew again. Is this most likely a short in the wiring?
Could a seized pump cause the fuse to blow?

Thanks.
Yes, a seized pump can more than likely be the cause. They sell rebuild kits here if you feel like taking the challenge.
