I’ve been lurking here for years. I started out back in 2007 with a 1997 Eclipse GSX and bounced around to a few different platforms since then. I knew I always wanted an Evo, and the right time finally revealed itself to me about 2 weeks ago.
The former owner of one of my DC5 RSX’s I bought about 10 years ago gave me a lead to an Evo X his friend owned. This car wasn’t actively for sale, but after reaching out to the owner of this X, I was able to convince him to sell it.
This will be a spring/summer/fall car for me. I have a 2014 Mercedes C300 4matic as a daily that has been a rock solid daily for me for 3 years now. No high horsepower goals at this time. My end goal is around 400whp for reliability. I was looking for a low mileage, clean, manual X to drive around for pleasure.
I’m typically not a fan of buying someone else’s “build”, but I could never justify spending the thousands these Varis kits run, so I figured it was either buy this, or never own the Varis kit.

Today’s project:
Pretty standard mod for all of my “tuner” cars that I’ve owned. UV treated, foam padded, black suede. I ran out of time and glue today so only the door cards were completed, but next weekend will be the headliner a/b/c pillars, and all the headliner plastics, sun visors, and b pillar sliders will be sprayed with SEM flexible plastic dye. A little bit of money, decent amount of effort, and some patience go a long way.
Since the last post I’ve done the headliner in black suede, and I’ve redone all the headliner plastics and the sun visors in SEM Landau Black dye.
Also today I swapped out the Depo SSS lights (atrocious light output) for the VLand RGB Bluetooth Headlights.
Also not pictured I installed some LED sequential sidemarkers.
Next up is to install my Kenwood DDX9906XR with reverse camera, and I’m about to order some seat brackets so I can install my Bride Zeta III’s and Takata Camlocks that have been sitting in the basement from the last car.
I know most of the X guys are into performance first. This car only has 37k miles so far, and is a full ETS bolt on with a 350whp conservative tune. The plan was to fix the other flaws before going for more power. The flaws being a bland interior, and a few minor exterior changes.
Thanks. The suede is easy to do if you take your time. The entire headliner, pillars, and door cards with the glue and SEM dye was maybe $150.

Another 25whp or so could’ve been pushed if we wanted to, but by most definitions it is fairly conservative. It wasn’t tuned to to the max of its ability considering it’s low mileage and aimed more towards longevity at this time.

Oof those interior carbon bits, looks so good! Where did you get them if you don't mind me asking...also do they making anything for the 8\9 interiors?

It’s printed “Forged Carbon” Avery Dennison vinyl sold by @vrdcustoms on Instagram. I just bought a roll of their vinyl and did the wrapping part myself.
