So…Here’s to a new chapter in The Book Of Never-ending Repairs. A few things that have been changed since acquiring the New ride.

Here is what it used to look like back in 2012

And…this is what it looks like now.

THE DAY!
How to start this? LOL! Let’s just say the ride home from previous owners place was a tricky one. The car wouldn’t keep idle because the AC compressor was on its way out, putting additional load on the motor. Long story short and 45 mins later I parked the car at home and something slapped the hood… but from the inside!

The AC belt said “That’s it BRUH…I’m out!” So that led to the search for an AC delete belt. Link to AC Delete Belt: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-delete-4.html The thread pretty much speaks the rest of the story on the AC issue, which has since been fixed.

Happy Days!

Before a new compressor was purchased, 4 new window regulators, a broken window clip fixed, a reverse light switch bought, a new slave cylinder bought, battery kit bought, new front brake pads bought, driver side Brembo rebuild kit installed, gearbox flushed, brakes blead, clutch blead, and finally inspected and licensed.

Also the Compressor has been swapped out with a brand new one, and the car was completely ready for the road. So I thought…then this happened!

Shake it like a salt Shaker!

During a cold start, the sound is practically gone. As the car gets warm the sound gets worse.

The question was… do I keep driving or take it off the road?

Well… I took it off the road. Due to the fact of the clutch is now slipping. Mind you, this clutch is not even 2 years old, and probably had only one launch on the car (not by me). I have yet to launch it due to this sound ever increasing over time. I don’t want to be driving around in a ticking time bomb.

Thanks Bro! Don't know about the looking better part. Hopefully early next year I can drop it off to the Paint Guy and have him work his magic. For the rest of 2016...I'll be rocking the burnt out paint, and maybe start a new trend:lol:

I have some goodies on the way, so just patiently waiting for those parts to arrive{pcfreak}

Well...the on island freight forwarding company I use, brought my stuff in way too early:lol::lol::lol:

Big thanks to Emery over at http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/ for hooking me up with the clutch bushings and fluids.

Thanks to https://www.extremepsi.com/store/home.php as well for the bolts and motor mount.

Woah! Been a while. I think it's time for an update I think.

Soooooooooo...where to begin......CLUTCH!

Yes the clutch is FINALLY in, but not without problems. After coming back home from vacation I got the not so good news from the Mechanic. :(

To avoid beating around the bush, here's a brake down of the situation so far.

Saturday Night Oct 8th:
I went to my mechanic's house on Saturday night. Tried making some adjustment, but to no avail.

1. Found out the shifter bushings I bought don't work. Maybe because it's an Evo 7 both bushings are the same size, and not one big one and one small one.
2. Re-bled the clutch
3. Checked to make sure the clutch pedal mounting points are OK and not cracked
4. Started the car in gear to see if the wheels turn when still on the clutch.

In order to get into first I had to rev the car to around 2k then it would take the gear (No sounds or grinding). I drove up the road for a test drive and back. spent about an hour talking with the mechanic discussing the issue, and ened up taking the car. On the drive home, I guess the more heat that got into the clutch the better it worked. I made about 4 to 5 complete stops on my way home. On the first stop, surprisingly it went right into 1st with no revving.

Sunday:
The Weekend, I went back to tinkering in the bay. I put in my old Evo 3 Extension slave pushrod (1/4" Longer than the Evo 8's) for some additional throw. I re-bled the line and adjusted the pedal again, I also had to adjust the idle to about 900rpms / 850rpms with AC. I noticed that it was two high and would enhance the 1st gear lockout issue.

Around 1:30pm, I drove from one end of the island to the next (28.4 miles) and back, along with a few detours. Still, there was no rattling of the clutch when selecting 1st gear, but rattling during every other shift.

Yesterday/Monday:
I drove to work. When leaving, I had no lockout :) but when I got to work I got reverse lockout when manoeuvring into a parking spot LOL. During lunch time I had no issues other than the dying whale / groaning sound when moving from a complete stop or slight incline. A friend of mines here assured me that the sound will go away over time, as his Evo did the same thing once and a while.

With all that being said the clutch has about 100+ miles on it now. I joined some traffic traffic yesterday afternoon to add to the break-in usage. About to do the same with lunch right now.

I'm still contemplating on dropping the gearbox again. The mechanic and I agreed that I'd keep the car drive around until Wednesday, and we'll discuss and go from there.

He's also recommending that if we do drop it, I should do the mod to the floater discs to assist with the disengagement.

What do you guys think?

Bump! For some advice maybe.

Hopefully this has a better impact than just text.

The sound during take off in first is normal for the exedy

sumopower87 Nov 16, 2016 06:49 AM

It's been a few months since I've dropped some updates.

The clutch is now broken in and holding like a champ! No more high rpm lockout issues{thumbup}.

So far I've just been driving the car, and enjoying it for what it is.

Last night I did some upgrades in the steering department. Installed some BEEFED UP tie rods. With a little exploring, I found out the tierod part numbers were the same for the Evo 3 and Evo 7 (8 & 9 will be the same as the 7). That lead me to contact someone that's very well know in the Evo 3 Community.... Pete!

Our discussions concluded with giving it a shot, to see if everything fit up. Without further adieu!

Can't wait to feel how this improves steering input, as it also did on the Evo 3

mrhussain Nov 17, 2016 08:03 AM

will the new rods give you more steering lock?

No sir. But it definitely gives a sharper response when turning. Steering input is awesome! With the slightest turn of the steering wheel, there is absolutely no delay or sloppiness.

Also installed my new boost gauge today. Took a lil time and patience with a little bit of creativity to get it installed, but got the job done in the end.

Thankfully I found a vacuum line that was already ran from the bay to the inside of the car, which made life a lot easier.

Nothing fancy, but here it is.

It's the new AEM X-Series Boost gauge if anyone is interested. Installed in a Autometer steering column single bezel (which required some minor smoothing out of the opening).

Just a little update on the car. Specifically the interior shifter cable bushing (neutral cable).
