FS[SouthEast]: 04 RS LSD Transfer case ((READ))
04 RS LSD Transfer case ((READ))
Hi guys,
I had a boo boo happen to my transfer case and for the sake of time opted to replace it, so now this one is up for sale.
It is out of a 2004 RS so it has the LSD diff in it (as far as I can tell, it appears original) and is NON ACD. There is NO death whine from the transfer case. There is a tiny hum/tone between 75-76mph like many of these get for unknown reasons, but that is it. Works great, nothing unusual especially considering the age/mileage. It has about 127k on it and again to the best of my knowledge is original.
The bad news... due to a jacked up gasket, the fill plug caused a crack in the outer case while tightening. This was caught when it happened so it was not driven out of oil... The crack was temporarily glued shut to make it road safe to get home and lost no oil. This was strictly due to a dufus move with the plug and not due to internal issue.
This will need either the cover swapped from a blown transfer or to have it tig'd back into working condition. Again the internals suffered no damage at all from this.
I tried to get a photo of the inside, but it turned out terrible... I can try again if needed though. I circled the two concern areas on the cover.
I was thinking around $800 shipped +PP or gift to east coast or midwest, but am certainly negotiable once I check individual shipping conditions. If someone in FL wants to come pick it up in Vero I'll make a good deal to save the shipping.

Very flexible if I don't have to ship it.
I understand there is a shortage of case parts out there, but so far other than a few reasonable offers that shipping killed I have literally been dealing with people giving insulting offers.
To wit, I had two different people inform me that they could only pay $200-300 because they would have to spend $700+ on a blown transfer case to get the cover.
Yeah let the mental gymnastics that put that thought together sink in.
I'm figuring I'm going to end up buying another case to swap the cover over and just putting it on ebay or getting it welded and keeping as a spare at this point though.

I wouldn't be too interested in parting it out unless the price was right... I don't want to swap the guts and be in the same position again only with a potentially less desirable unit.
PM me what you were thinking for it (no exchange) and we'll see
