Question S-L-X Denatured Alchohol and HFS-5?

Ok guys, so I have found out that my local Home Depot carries this brand of denatured alcohol.

According to the MSDS contain the following:
- 45-50% Ethyl Alcohol (grain alcohol)
- 45-50% Methanol
- 1-4% Methyl Isobutyl Ketone

First, will there be any problems running this with the Aquamist HFS-5 injection kit?

Second, should I run this mixture straight or mix with distilled water for max power?

Third, what percentage of alcohol mixture to fuel is recommended?

Tough questions, but trying to limit the tuning iterations based on others experiences.

do not use it....MIK is as bad as MEK, methylethyl ketone, PVC pipe welding cement.

Call around chemical supply houses and get 5 gallon sealed drum of methanol or hotrod shop

I ended up ordering mine from a mtorcycle shop that carries VP fuel. You can go to VP's website and get their number and then give them a call and they will tell you a local distributor.

SlowCar,

Thanks for the heads up. Off to get methanol, found a shop semi-close that carries it.

it will be great to get meth in a sealed drum - should be ~$30/5gal drum

If you get your stuff from open drum, have them put it into a whitish plastic container to see the color of the meth...I bought some straw colored meth from a hotrod shop when i 1st started using meth. I believe its water/rust contamination.

My friend also runs it with an SMC kit on his STI when he can't get Methenol. He has had zero issues with his kit. He has about 15k on his kit too.

We based our system on pure methanol. Like abner said, denatured ethanol can be mixed with all sort of chemicals and ratio, you can never be certain if there are any hydrocarbon based substance in the mix.

Hydrocarbon will kill EPDM seal in time. The pump and HSV uses EPDM seals.

Also there are some VP methanol mix contains other chemicals, please stay away from those. HSV is expensive to replace. We have had some reports in the past of bad HSV and pump due to addition of nitromethane (hydrocarbon) in the mix .
