EGR code p0401
Has anyone had this issue come up? I had it back a few months ago but cleared the code and it stayed off til just recently. I tried cleaning the ports from the EGR valve with a crappy wire brush but it wouldn't clean it very well cause the bristles were too stiff and wouldn't allow me to clean the ports on the inside well.
Would spraying carb cleaner on the ports be a good idea to clean out the carbon deposits? I cleaned what I could today but the code came back later on this evening. I'm not really sure if I need to clean the intake manifold side more or the EGR valve more. I did a bit of both. Has anyone had their EGR valve fail? They're just stupid expensive and I dont want to have to pick one up if I really dont have to.

I would also like to add that so far I dont notice any negative side-effects on drivability. Don't hear any pinging. Our cars dont have a DPFE sensor nor any vacuum hoses from the EGR to the intake manifold since its bolted directly on so I'm guessing the only issues could be either a bad valve or just dirty ports.... which then go back to my problems discussed in my previous post
what's up man!
well, to get started, i had this code pop up for me a while back.
you know how i got rid of it?
i cleaned my throttle body like crazy!
i mean take that thing out and CLEAN THE CRAP OUT OF IT with sensor cleaner or throttle body cleaner.
i also cleaned my MAF.
and reset my ECU (left the battery unplugged overnight & did a thorough idle relearn process in the afternoon the next day)
it kept coming back for some reason but after a while, it stopped coming back and then i got the p0441 code (the purge valve solenoid syndrome)...
i fixed the p0441 by not overfilling my fuel tank & by cleaning (with a paper towel) the mouth of my tank after i refuel.
up to this day, my dash has been clear of engine codes and i'm hoping it stays that way.
the p0401 isn't a major issue.
i'm pretty sure our GREAT & BEASTLY RAs will just ride it out eventually.
just keep clearing it and drive her nice and smooth.
OH! and use some LUCAS injector cleaner.
it actually helps clean out the crappy fuel that goes through your engine and that helps your EGR.
let us know how it works out bro!
nice to hear from you again

Yeah I havent had any issues really with my TB or my MAF so figured I dont really need to clean it. Probably should change my air filter but doubt that has anything to do w/ my issue now. So far code hasnt come back *knock on wood* just wanted to know what other things that could fix it would be.
Will try out the Lucas cleaner. I just throw it in the gas tank along with a full tank I'm guessing?

but some people say fill 1/2 then put it in then fill to full.
then drive til it's empty.
