Craziest thing I ever saw

Here's the story - 10W-30 SuperTech oil (Walmart) (changed last fall - 3400 miles ago) combined with a K&N filter. Buy new oil today, pull the dip stick and the old oil looks like I changed it yesterday and has very little odor. I'm used to seeing black stinky oil at 3000 miles. I went with SuperTech synthetic because that's all Walmart had that day last fall. I guess everyone was in an oil changing mood.

So, what do you think, does SuperTech lack all dispersants (the chemicals that keep particles in solution) or has K&N suddenly made a breakthrough in oil filter technology? Craziest thing I ever saw.

I think you changed your oil and forgot...LOL.

But seriously. It's a good bet that the super tech doesn't have the detergents that help it carry the junk to the filter.

It's still weird that it was that clean.

Here's a picture of the oil on the dip stick. It looks dark on the tip but that is just caused by the curvature of the metal.

Here's a picture of the K&N filter. It has seen all of winter it wants to. I didn't forget I changed oil. K&N needs to spend more money on paint.

Thanks, interesting thread on ST. It seems some people love it and some are sceptical. Call me sceptical.

This time around Mobil 1 10W-40 went into the crankcase with Purolator Pure 1 filter. I did find some Mobil 1 10W-40 synthetic with a Mercedes specification on it at Walmart last spring. It went into my Subie which usually doesn't use oil and it drank 2 quarts.

Get a Blackstone Lab oil testing kit. Find out what's actually in the oil.

Pure Walmart magic

The thread link above noted that the makers of the ST brand is either Exxon Mobile or Warren Performance Products depending on how its packaged. Its just oil!

In the garage, containing waste oil, is the container the oil came in. 'WPP' is molded into the bottom.

You throw out a tempting idea. It could be the K&N filter, I'd love to know. Your suggestion might provide the answer or at least be interesting. But, the Fram filter and Walmart oil combination - I don't think so.

I only run the Fram filters on all my cars. Whats wrong w/them. One of the best IMO

(Fram Ultra Syn Filter) Great reviews on the BITOG Forum (The have been torn down many times & examined for build & filtration quality)

Unless Fram reengineered their filters, they are a complete pile. I did a study in college between different oil filters. Similar to ones you would find on this site. Purolator all the way.

If you dont believe me, cut open two new filters and compare the internals. You would be blown away.

Ah, I must have read over the word "Ultra". Yes the Ultra is comparable to purolator if not a touch better. Only comes down to price and availability.
