Good luck, curious what it ends up being. I've beat the hell out of a lot of ACTs over the last 15 years and never had any of these issues.

You and me both! I beat the bag out of my ACT in my SRT-4 but that also wasn't making much more than 275whp so it was't even beginning to stress it.

A little update here... I heard from Raif last night and he said the clutch was not the issue, rather it looks as if something fell into or was left inside the trans... Either way whatever it was is now out of the trans, and did a number on the clutch on its way out lol As he gets deeper today I'll update as to what he thinks it was. I have not been inside the trans yet so whatever it was, it was left there from a previous owner or when the trans or cluitch was installed and I happened to be the unlucky receiver of the carnage... More info to follow!

Got my car back last night and I've gotta say the 4.11 FD was for sure the right move. Raif crushed the job in 2 days and did phenomenal work. The trans shifts like butter, and cruising on the highway is night and day better with the new FD. As I put more miles on everything and get the carbon syncros broken in I will post my thoughts on everything.

I ended up needing a new bell housing (obviously), and I had the gear set shot peened, had carbon syncros installed, he did an oiling upgrade, installed my Comp twin disc, and went through my TC and installed a wavetrack diff and went through everything else inside. Once I get out of work today I'll post some pics of the old clutch as it took a serious beating, then I'll also post some pics of the engine bay with the clean gearbox stuffed in there. For anyone in the New England area, I would highly recommend checking out RRT Motorsports. Raif is an awesome guy, he knows his stuff, and he'll get the job done fast without sacrificing quality.

I wish I took a pic of the bell housing... I'll talk to Raif today and have him send me a pic to post up. It looked pretty rough lol Whatever was in there tumbled around quite a bit before punching its way out.

Here's a few pics of the ACT Clutch. As you can tell it took a good beating from whatever was inside, but the friction material also chipped apart as a result of the shrapnel flying around inside. I also threw a pic once I got back to my apartment with it and a crappy pic of the trans from the top. Wish I could've found out what caused all of this! Anyways, thanks to all that followed through the rebuild, and for the moral support LOL

Wow my act clutch looks almost like yours. My Throw out bearing ended up going out first before the clutch did. Clutch had like 65k miles on it.

Not for nothing but how are you so sure there was something left in there? Its kinda hard to leave something in there when bolting back up the clutch and trans...And for it to get between the pressure place clutch disk and flywheel in order to rip apart the friction surfaces as you described it also sounds more than suspect to me.

From the pictures I dont think there was something left inside. I think you killed the clutch or the clutch prematurely disintegrated on you.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune but glad to hear she's back up and running! Car looks great btw; good to see a local with a silver evo on NT03's

I'd be inclined to agree with you, but the clutch only had 14,000 miles on it and I've only put on roughly 700 of those miles. It may very well have prematurely disintegrated, as it kind of looks that way, but Raif suggested there may have been something left in there or what have you which is why I mentioned that, so it wasn't an assumption on my end. Either way it doesn't really matter because the damage was done anyways haha Where are you located? I haven't seen too many Evo's out this way surprisingly...

Oh man now I think that is the case even more so. I didn't realize the stated 14k miles weren't put on by you. Sorry if it sounded like I was calling you out! I think the previous owner destroyed the clutch prior and it was on its last legs as you took over ownership. But as you said onward and upward, just sucks it took out the bell housing with it...

Yeah there are barely any evos around here and the ones I do see are always X's, lol. I live in Westborough so you're not too far from me. But I've also got an AS with a couple sets of NT03's so I guess we're almost twins!

No worries. I can't say one way or another as I wasn't there but I imagine you're right. I'm going to assume it was a result of a ****ty driver as the wheels have quite a bit of curb rash...

Yeah that's not too far. I'd definitely like to meet up with some other local Evo guys as I have yet to really hang out with any other Evo guys...

Lol curb rash = newb for sure haha!

There is a FB group NEVO which I am technically a part of and know they have meets and stuff but Im not very active on FB nor have I ever met up with them.

I do have a couple buddies with evos and one of my good friends tunes (no longer an evo owner) so if you need any tuning done I can get you in touch with him.

Im not much of a "car meet" kinda guy though happy to meet others; just wouldn't go out of my way to do so if you catch my drift. But if you're into auto-x or other forms of motorsports I'd love to see other evos out there! Feel free to PM me if you'd like and maybe we can sync up.

Yeah I'm on NEEVO as well, but it seems to be primarily X owners on there unfortunately. I don't do autoX or anything, I just like cruising around wasting time really lol I'd be down to go watch the event though so I'll get with you sometime, and if you know of any upcoming events let me know and I'll see what I can do.
