Sheepey intercooler fitment issues?

I've recently purchased a Sheepey Built intercooler for my Evo 8 (Mitsubishi Evo 850hp item on Sheepey's website) and I've come to see that fitment was less than ideal in terms of mating up to my existing piping. I'll just give some backstory to make sense of it all.

The car had a full Injen piping kit with the stock core, fitted up nicely via the previous owner. I've purchased the ETS LP2 and the Sheepey core with the assumption (might've been my downfall here haha) that the welded bungs and supplied brackets, which I don't actually have right now) would entail a "stock replacement" sort of fitment.

Here's the issue, the stock core has the in/outlets located along the center of the end tanks, facing downward at a 45 degree angle and utilizes the 45 degree couplers to mate to the piping. The Sheepey core has the in/outlets located on the bottom/lower section of the end tanks and are facing straight outward. With the help of various attempts at cutting new lengths and bends of silicone couplers, I've managed to get everything together and running, but the UICP sits relatively high up, making the drivers side of the core sit about an inch higher than the passengers side and it bugs the hell out of me because I know this was my miscalculation/fault.

Question: is it because of the "stock replacement" Injen UICP? If so, what upper pipe have you or a friend used that corrected this? Or, what did you folks do when you installed your aftermarket intercooler core? Just probing for ideas from people who had a...not so "drop in" installation as well lol.

I'm by no means bashing on Sheepey. Their work is great and I'm loving the core and it's beautiful welds! This was simply my miscalculation bahaha fml. Thanks in advance guys!

TL;DR

Help, I'm stupid. My new IC core is crooked and I'm fussy. Have any of you been required to buy a new UICP to get their IC to sit straight? How did your IC core install experience go? Thanks!

Try stock upper and see if it fix the issue. How's your lower? Sitting straight or sagging?

stock evo piping as well as injen piping still utilize inlet/outlet facing up toward the intercooler. Piping like ETS, STM, .... piping sits lower to utilize the straight inlet/outlets. So your solution is to get rid of the injen pipes, and go with the ETS,STM,CBRD,..... or you can sell the sheepy intercooler and get an AMS, Neisei, etc that still use the factory style (angled upward IC inlet/outlet)

Lol okay I'm going to say it's straight but bear in mind that I'm not 100% sure where the line is drawn between the two 😂

Amazing. Thank you for the specifics! What a relief lol.

I'll try to attach pictures to this post. This is from my phone so I'm a bit unsure if it'll go thru haha.

Doesn't look like the inlet or outlet are angled back at all. Have you tried putting the Front Bumper on yet. You may run into even more trouble there.

I know ETS's IC/Piping is completely interchangeable with the factory components. Meaning you can use their piping and your stock IC or their IC and your stock piping or obviously their piping and their IC

Their IC inlet and outlet angle back allowing the bumper to fit on. Back when the EVO hit I saw a lot of folks wnted to buy aftermarket front mounts and found out the hard way since inlet and outlet were straight out from the endtanks the bumper would not fit on once piping was installed too

I have, it's all together and running for now. You're absolutely right about bumper fitment. It was expected, yet it still frustrated me haha. Thankfully, the previous owner has actually already broken the bumper tab on the passenger side, which gave me less worry about all of the tension that is currently being put on it with the 5 zip ties I've used to secure it for now haha. I don't wish to trim the bumper until the mounting brackets come in. I'm expecting it to reposition the core, so I'd rather wait and see what it does.

It's hard to see in that picture, but the driver's side reducer coupling (inlet was the wrong size) is angled upwards a bit and is flexing backward, creating a fat hump in the back of the coupler haha. My lower pipe is an ETS LP2 and the coupler to the turbo outlet is angled, so that flexibility helped a lot with this.

Aw man, that's really bright of ETS to angle their in/outlets back like that. Now I'm sort of second guessing which UICP to get in attempt of remedy. Either way, I'd like to get rid of this Injen set up...the LICP was a nightmare. It would pop out every other weekend that i'd take it out to drive hard.

Viewing this picture from the underside of the drivers side coupler, in hindsight, makes me wish it was angled backward LOL.

Doesn't look bad at all IMO. Hopefully a little more tweaking and it'll work out. Good Luck.

Yea don't hack up the bumper to make it fit you'll regret it i'm sure. Looks like it won't take too much to get it dialed in

Good god that thing fits like ****. Its not even where its supposed to be. Its sitting way low, and its f#cking crooked. And that coupler should not be bent up like that. I'd be getting my money back for that turd. Buy something that actually fits like an ETS, CBRD or AMS. Holy ****. Baffles me that they are able to sell those things and stay in business.

I guess it's safe to say that they really intended these to go with their full kits haha! It's difficult, but I don't want to make a fuss about returns until I see how it turns out with the proper mounting brackets. Although, I'm happy to use Sheepey products! If all else fails, one of the listed brands you've named will definitely be in my near future; given I don't buy a Sheepey kit to match

Sheepy is legit, I don't know what you're talking about. His hot parts kits and ICs are on countless Evos. Stop being an idiot.

Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong here but the IC appears to be a universal unit. It wasn't designed as a direct fit replacement for the car so of course it won't just fit.
