2015 Seat swap
2015 Seat swap
I apologize if this is in the wrong area...
I've been doing a lot of reading on the 2015 seat swap and 1 question I'm not finding an answer for is.... does the resistor method FIX the airbag system or ... just shut the light off. I know 100% the system is 100% not functional with the light on. But does this proposed "fix" guarantee the system WILL operate correctly if you do get into a wreck? Or are we simply just making the annoying light go off?
I called a reputable local shop that deals with NSX's and they have done all the work on my car. His answer was...
"There is no way to guarantee the airbag system will 100% work using resistors and theoretically the light going off signifies that the system SHOULD work."
Now I'm not asking anybody to go get into an accident to find out... that's just ridiculous. But for anybody who has done a seat swap or has knowledge otherwise, could you chime in here? I feel for safety's sake some others might want to know as well. I want to have at least some airbags!
with that said ... anybody wanting to dump those uncomfortable recaros.... lmk!

You will get airbag light with non oem recaros, that's were you found the need for resistor. There are a few Recaro seats on ebay that are really good, just get them reupholstered.
Here is an example.

i would buy that and get them all reupholstered with leather and red stitches is what i did.

Cost me around $1,000 for front and back plus i got the seats from ebay at $1,000 no airbag deployed on the ones i got. I wait until the right set show up.
Don't think this was answered unless I missed it but does this mean that the side impact air bags in the seats would be fully functional as long as the swap is done with oem recaros?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, as long as they weren't previously deployed or you have an airbag light on.
Most -- if not all -- electrical load/weight sensors are just various methods of measuring resistance.

The resistor achieves the same end result. There always is a person in the seat because a specific resistance is measured in the circuit. The wiring under the seat is dead simple. The important circuitry is under the dash. If the light says there is a person in the seat then the airbag is armed.
The main risk might be in the resistor dislodging itself in a crash and possibly disarming the airbag.
But I'm no electrical engineer or anything, so I'm no authoritative source. Just making a somewhat educated guess.

I think Recaro has no side airbag (built in),this is why 2015 gets lancer seats. So if you do install Recaro in yours, you dont have a side airbag (from seat) either lights on/off. Now i do not think this will affect all airbags in car.
