Need help identifying my turbo...

Hello everyone I purchased a car through a private sale and cannot get a hold of the previous owner. I have no idea what turbo is on the now blown motor. The guy claimed it was an evo 8 turbo and I basically took his word for it. There are some pictures of where I believe numbers should be but there's just nothing there. If anyone can help me out that would be great

Hi Jared

Certainly not a Mitsu turbo. The castings are diff as noted in the attached pic of a OEM 9 & 8 side by side.
Im no turbo expert, but maybe yours is an offshore brand?

They definitely look a lot different. The car was very laggy in 1st and 2nd before the motor blew but after pulling everything out in preparation for a new motor I noticed there was a lot of stuff not how it should be. The boost control was hooked up wrong and the exhaust manifold has about 3 cracks that all leak. Hopefully with repairs and proper boost control it could be an okay turbo. If anyone recognises exactly what it is I would love to know 😁

See if there are any casting marks/serial numbers on the turbine housing. Can see the rivets where the serial plate used to be on the compressor cover, but it's gone.

The only marks are those in the last photo. Yeah I see there must of been a plate or something similar on there at some stage. Other than that there's no other markings

That means it for sure has a Chinese (not original) turbine housing. Beyond that, not sure..

maybe its an 8 turbo with a wheel and housing upgrade? take the housing off and measure the compressor wheel.

I would NOT put that back with a fresh motor.

It look weird. It might be they come from China . There is no enough information in this turbo.
