giving this a bump. i've got the binary eng duct brackets that i've never used. can i just zip tie some hose to that, and connect the other end of the hose to the grill? lol. can it be that simple? can i squeeze it above the plastic undertray, zipped to the grill?

curious also if there's ever been any testing/verified impact from the MR brake air guides

Sam, you will have to use a SST clamp at that connection. Way too much heat for a plastic tie wrap to survive

ah makes sense. surprised there's no clearance issue with the cv boots and the duct bracket

where do you connect on the other end? can it just go to the mesh grill on the 9's front bumper somehow?

I found the inlet end of the brake ducts to be the hardest part of a brake cooling setup. The ACD pump and oil cooler really make squeezing tubes in very difficult with an Evo IX. I ended up installing ducts into the undertray, but will revise that in the future.

darn... i'll have to take a look. don't bugs and rocks and dirt eventually collect in the tubes though?

Would some NACA style duct on the splitter work better for getting air. Certainly not as high pressure as the front nose above the splitter but should have good airflow along the splitter underside.

My plan for front aero involves fully closing off the bumper other than the FMIC and rad inlet. I have ACD moved to the back and oil cooler moved to above/behind the FMIC so no reason for air to come through there.

And back to more relevant to the thread, Carls setup certainly wont be similar to everyone else with the SSB uprights in there. I dont think we have ever done the duct clearancing on his either, maybe we'll get to it this winter some time. We also really need to get the duct finished for the uprights to run a 2.5" tube.

technical question for you guys. so i've got the binary eng ducts that i've never installed on the car. now that i'm getting the x calipers and it's coming off,

should i go ahead and throw them on, even if i'm not about to add the ducting? technically speaking, without ducting it'll act as at most a heat sink. the difference between that and if actual ducts are installed, is, i'm assuming, it's at least somewhat cooled by air with the actual tubing on it.

if i just install it without adding the piping, and it does act as a heat sink (good), will it get too hot too close to any rubber (bad)?

I don't think it'll hurt anything, but it seems pretty silly to have the duct brackets on the caliper and nothing to feed it air. I would install the brackets when you have the tubing in place.

was thinking it'd be more of a one day thing

looks like you have the binary eng brackets too - does it get in the way of anything? get close to the cv rubber or anything like that?

It clears nicely even with a length of hose attached. I'm not concerned with the bracket itself rubbing anything.

thanks. yea might as well throw it on, at the least it will serve as a heat sink for now until i formally throw ducting on there

Super late on some of your questions but those ducts clear pretty well, and I just zip tied the front of the hoses to the mesh grill for now. Looks like trash but it works.

sweet - appreciate the picture!

i'm gonna be so lazy but:
where did you get the ducting?
how many feet did you need?
does how you show up there clear everything under there?

that's essentially how i was thinking i'd set it up, ie. zip tie to front bumper, if there was space. how does it look from the front of the car?totally obvious and ugly?

wonder if there is a less conspicuous color than orange (ie black)
