A possible solution to minimize deadbeat sellers.

some of you may know (or not) that i created a thread warning people if Amazin'Wasian. info can be found here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...5&page=1&pp=15

i wanted to make a suggestion for the private classifieds section. for those selling any part or item, to take a picture of the item(s) along with a sheet of paper with the current date and the person's name/alias on it. as troublesome as this may sound, i feel that it would greatly minimize fraudulent sales on these boards.

i normally do not purchase parts on the forums unless i see a picture of the item first. little did i know that this last person who tried selling me a car part stole someone else's picture on the forum and tricked me into paying him for it.

lastly, digicam camera's are very affordable nowadays anyway. so there shouldn't be an excuse for not having one, especially for those who can afford to own an evo.

thanks.

this guy pretended he had an AMS licp and sold it to me by showing me a pic of someone else's pipe. at least with their name and date on paper next to the item, you'll know that there is actually a tangible item to sell. i dunno, it was just an idea. i've seen other forums have it as their rule and it seems to work for them.

the piece of paper with DATE and USERNAME is very effective.
it has alsmost stopped fraud on msprotege.com (which is a very large community).
we were suffering from constant scams (myself included), and our admins came up with this plan.

I don't think we can mandate that, as we don't even mandate pictures. It's a very good idea for a leery buyer; something I'd definitely request if I was buying a relatively new user with no trader rating.

As for not having a camera - bogus excuse. Nearly every cell phone has a digital camera (not the best, but passable), and you can get single use digital cameras for $10.

Well then it should not be a problem for everyone to post pics. No excuses if this is the case then.

I dont like the idea. If you dont like to shop with the current method, I say dont shop. Thankfully I have not been stung yet. I tend to send a pic to someone directly on request, or have them email me if it is important enough. If I dont have a good feeling, I dont buy....believe me, I have passed on some buys due to bad gut feeling. The current system is user friendly.

Like I said, we can't mandate it. Our official view is still caveat emptor. But this is a good idea for when you get those guy feelings.

there was no way for me to know that this person was a bad seller. he was very courteous (until i paid him), sent me a very clear picture(even tho it was stolen), and seemed to be a pretty active member on these forums (created threads, posted replies yada yada). people look at seller rating. how's a person supposed to get a rating if everyone decides not to deal with a person with (0). someone's gotta be the first, right?

again, there were no indications that this guy was a bad seller.

Why can't it be changed...

People used to be able to sell here without really doing any posting and the rules were changed to allow only real contributors to the community to sell. AKA minimum number of posts to be able to post in the forsale forum.

I don't see why it would be a problem if it helps to protect people.

You don't need a digital camera...web cams can take pics too.

The challenge is enforcement, not changing the rule.

All good points. Unfortunately, I have even received bad crap on ebay, and they have one of the best systems for online purchasing. Probably not a real solution other than due diligence.

dont we have a person responsibvle for "for sale" threads?
there can be 2 or 3 people assigned to monitor that section.

person is given 24-48 hours to put up pics. if they dont, thread is deleted.
