search button request

I was thinking if the"search" button was in bold letters and hot pink then maybe the newbies would use it, it gets old and now i can see why older members get pissed. maybe have a warning system, first attempt a pm from the mods, a second attempt 3 day ban. just a idea that may or may not help with useless posts

It already is pretty bold IMO, honostly though not searching is more of a "minor annoyance" than anything that would justify a ban.

we can highlight, bold, italic and even paint the buttom bright pink with neons and people would still not use it. people don't use it not because they can't find it, they don't use it because it is easier to just start a new thread. people that have been a part of on-line communities before know just how annying it is and will use it even if it is not in 18 font. as for banning someone for not using it, never going to happen becuase we will have maybe 3 members left. i will bet you that every thread you can show me, i can show you 3 that are about the exact same thing.

Do you want this to be Wikipedia or a forum? I view a forum like a bunch of conversations going on in a huge room -- although you have the pleasure of being able to participate in more than one at the same time.

If you're at an Evo owners' meet with 150 Evo owners and somebody walks up to you and asks how much horsepower you can get with just an ECU reflash -- typical noob question -- do you get indignant and tell him that he should go find out on his own, or do you take 10 seconds to answer the guy? Or worse, do you tell him, "we talked about that an hour ago, you can find the transcript somewhere."

It amazes me how people think they can just toss civil behavior out the window because they're not face-to-face with somebody. It's even more baffling because on a forum, you have the option to ignore the person, an option which may not be feasible face-to-face. Answer the noob's question or politely direct him to where he can find an answer.

Calling for warnings or a ban is just wrong in so many ways. EvoM is meant to bring people together, and tolerating noobs' questions (even though you've seen it 50 times before) is part of that on the forum just as it is in real life.

maybe but if you had a shirt on that explained a bunch of the typical questions newbs ask, then in real life you could give him that face because he decided to ask something blatant... kind of like a search button on a forum.

trust me i get what you're saying so now im just going to start wearing shirts that say things like

get rid of that hks ssq
evo brokenequalsign vta
check for a boost leak
buy buschur and ams exhausts
no, that needs a reflash
oh god, a reflash is a tune on the stock ecu
they're roughly 300ish depending on the tuner
you dont need that bigger fmic till later dude

stuff like that.

Anyone want me to actually make that shirt?

Blonde, don't act like you aren't guilty. I could quote you from a pm telling me "whatever it doesn't matter". I bet you wouldnt have said that to my face. That was rude and uncalled for but just because we're on the internet you treated me and many others the same way.

In defense of those who appear not to have searched -

There are times I've searched for some very basic info on EvoM, only to be presented with dozens of meaningless hits to the search. It would be labor-intensive, but a library of FAQs for various Evo-related issues would be a godsend (I'd love one for allowed/recommended mods for SCCA BSP competition). Of course, it would quickly go from fact to opinion as you accumulated items, but it would be worth it to some. That way you could separate out the library of info from the conversations and make searches a bit more meaningful. A separate forum and a Wiki-style knowledge repository would be the best of both worlds.

hahah, you are something else. i told you "whatever, it doesn't matter" so we can move on. no disrespect at all and yes, i would say it to your face any day of the weelk. if you argue with somebody and you are just going in circles, i just say "whatever, doesn't matter" so we can move on and stop arguing. and yes, feel free to post that pm ffor all to see. you make it sound like i cursed you and made fun of you...

you know what kee1pride, let me help you by posting what happened so everybody can see just of how much of a bastard i am. some guy posted this thread:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=208755

this is a repost of course and immediatly he got jumped on by 30 members that made fun of him and pretty much took the entire thread off topic. i cleaned the thread and deleted the first 20 or so posts and gave a warning to everybody that such behavior is not needed or welcome.

than i got a pm from kee1pride saying: "In regards to this thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=208755

Not to be rude or anything but, the reason the posts in that thread were so useless is because it was discussed for 11 pages already"

i responded by saying: "whatever, it doesn't matter" because to me, it really doesn't matter, no need to keep arguing on something that is pointless. it doesn't matter if it was posted 1000000 times, disrespecting and making fun of someone is never right.

you were saying????

Not to bring up the evil site, but NASIOC does have the best item in the world for situations like this - the Unibomber Manifesto.

Unabomber's Manifesto
Compendium post of the NASIOC user Unabomer's FAQs. These FAQs are frequently asked questions about common Subaru modifications and other Subaru information. Considered by many to be a "first read" for new members.

The reason this is key is because each item in there is amazingly comprehensive, answering any question that either a noob or an experienced owner could have on that given topic.
If we had someone who was patient, knowledgeable, and unbiased enough, it wouldn't be too hard to pool the massive amounts of Evo knowledge into a very basic FAQ that would kick ***. Read some of the Unibomber's posts in there and see for yourself...

Obviously you have no clue as to how to have manners on the internet. I'm not there. I can't hear your tone of voice. I can't seperate sarcasm from sincerity with nothing but text. Now tell me what goes through your head when someone says "whatever" to you on here? We must be differen't but me and many other people take offense to that kind of response. The "it really doesn't matter" was perfectly fine etiquette if you didn't want to be rude. The "whatever" is clearly the same thing as "I could give a damn less what your opinion is".
