Angry ATTN: "OT ******". STOP IT!

Look.

I know off topic can be a lot of fun, but this senseless over-posting has to stop.

I used to only get the server busy message once in a great while, and now I get it over ten times a day.

This is a Lancer Enthusist's site. Not an OT whorehouse. If you think OT is so great, start your own OT forum, and eat up the bandwidth and server space there.

I am not saying we shouldn't have OT, because we should. Threads like "this might be the longest thread ever" and the other OT ***** thread which has almost reached 3000 posts in less than a week should both be deleted. If you want to just talk a bunch of senseless crap, then go meet in the chatroom, or make one on AIM or Yahoo somewhere.

I admit, I posted a few in the OT ***** thread, but I'm now acknowledging the error of my ways.

In short, please keep OT posts to a minimum, so that people who are interested in their cars and such, don't have to look elsewhere because evom has more ****** than New York City.

If you want mindless posts, try www.fark.com You will all fit in perfectly there.

Server busy messages, yes, not to mention wasted bandwith and storage space for totally irrelevant posts.

I for one agree with you.

I would agree with you guys. I would like to point out that the Evo forums ALSO contributes to this problem. We have a new thread every time someone get's his/her new evo. It instantly turns to a flamefest, and thus also contributes to our problem. The only way to solve this is get a server with better bandwidth and space, which is what I believe Mark is currently working on. Im not siding with either side, im just acknowledging that is IS a problem, but there is not much we can do about it.

There is an off topic section, so why dont people in evo general use it. Lots of off topic stuff gets placed there only because it reffers an evo. they shouldnt be exempt.

Karlen, I believe he is talking about EXTREME off-topic stuff like those 3000 post long threads. But, like I said, there isnt really anything we can do about it except get a better server (Which will cost Mark even more money).

We'll get a ruling from up above. The server busy problem happened as much to me two weeks ago (if not more) than it does today, so I don't think that's the sole, or even primary, cause...but Mark knows far more about the server than anyone else.

yeah i know what he means Mr Mod. I just had to add that there isnt just the off topic in their own forum, but they are everywhere therefore contributing to the over posting of off topic and bunching up the sever.

can't mods close threads?

because yes, i'm talking about the excessive OT threads, which should be shut down.

to me, mark shouldn't have to pay another cent so people can continue to spew their verbal diarrhea.

Yes, we CAN. It's not a question of ability, it's a question of whether or not we should.

EDIT: Text takes up next to no space. Mark had mentioned upgrading the server AND addressed the server busy issues well before this thread was created.

That's not up to us to decide. That's up to Mark to decide. If Mark wants it closed, he will close it or ask one of us to do it. I also asked him if I should clean up the "Longest thread ever" thread, he said:

"It should be ok. That thread is really only a few KB of space in the entire database.

Mark"

Andrew (Hobie) also backed Mark up and said:
"Let it be. It'll be fine. It's in the thread's nature to be messy. Truthfully OT needs very little modding...

... OT has a way of balancing itself out in its almighty whoredom."

So basically, those threads will stay. I really dont think that those threads are the cause of the server's business problem. Ill investigate further about our "server is busy" problem.

everyone has the right to post whatever in the off-tpoic threads...hence why we have the thread section.if you plan on limiting what people can post in OT they will simply find some other place to post ...like the regular threads...and we all know that no one likes that.maybe there can be a mirror site...a forums archives...i don't know how much trouble that would be but it's just a thought

guys, from a number of members standpoint, I'm sure Mark is happy to say how many members the site has. To get these members he had to cater to what the people wanted. If he didn't allow some OT here and there he'd loose members....and besides, isn't this whole thread kind OT??

I'm pretty sure the problem is arrising from the fact that people post like 10 pictures of their new Evo. While its great that every person is estatic about getting a new Evo, the pictures are most likely what takes up the most amount of space. Those threads should be cleaned up after a few days, thus freeing up more space. I'm not saying to stop the postings of "I Got A New Evo" but to just let people get it out of thier system, then take it off the site once noone will miss it.

wow. i'm amazed at how many people don't read and/or comprehend my original post. i'm not suggesting removing OT, just the mindless ***** posts.

and speedkillz has a good point as well.
