To All Moderators/EvoM members

So after reading 101 different noob questions i started noticing the same types of question. I have a suggestion for the moderators to improve this site. I suggest that a 101 forum/Stickey be made and some of the smaller interest items and subjects be input into it. Like What are commonly used tranny fluids? Or what type of DV do people use most. This would eliminate alot of the repeat post of the above question and also limit the overwhelmingly large search results which turn the noobs away from reading through them. You could even look up some of the more successfull members and list some of the parts and fluids they run to show what the "Pro's" use. Just my idea to make this a better site.

its not the mods fault not entirely, its the users 90% of the time.. this nation is full of lazy people.. there is only one thing to do to stop .. delete the posts, and the person.. its a gorrilla tactic, but it works.. but this wont happen, so we are stuck with people making the same posts cause there lazy..

I hear ya DA but man a stickey is a stickey, it should help. I am a gorrilla tactics man myself, but when i see a Vendor post how they never knew they were ruining their tranny by putting a crappy fluid in....that ain't a noob. I know they should know better but they need help too. God knows it could save my *** someday.

We have a Newbie/FAQ section just for that. Most of the posts/threads you refer to should probably go there. I personally do my best to cruise Evo General and move/edit/delete threads that are inappropriate. Remember: us Mods all have full time jobs and do this as a voluntary service to the EvoM community. We cannot be everywhere at all times.

Moving to Feedback.

Yes, if it's anywhere we dump those threads, it'll be in the newbie forum.

Yeah, but would it actually GUARANTEE those types of repetitive threads not showing up anymore? I heavily doubt it.

Everyone needs to check out the newbie section. It has ton of stickies in there. We even have a New User guide that gets emailed to each new user when they register. It is also in the newbie section. The user guide is packed with forum rules, vocab, basic info, etc.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=197544

The only thing I would suggest doing is to link each user that posts a repeative question to the new user guide. If there are items missing in the guide then we can add to it.

We have a sticky in Site Feedback labeled Sticky: Can't post in the For Sale section? - ANSWER WITHIN and yet 10-20% of all questions posted in Site Feedback are "Why can't I post in for sale?" or "I can't sell my items, help". These are almost always posted by 0 post n00bs, the same people who are asking the same inane Evo related questions over and over in Evo General. A lot of people sign up to ask that one question, even though the same question has been asked before.

A well put together Evo 101 article would be of great interest to a lot of people on the site, many of which don't want to read through dozens of threads listening to the vendors and fanboys bash each other (and many of which only browse the site as guests). Unfortunately, I don't see it reducing the volume of stupid/redundant/been discussed 1000 times type questions.

Regardless, the suggestion is appreciated

another thing is to limit first timers to only starting a thread in a newbie forum until they get, say 10 posts.. some might not like it, but it will greatly reduce useless threads.. its the only thing that would work..

also most of us older people know youre not heroes, and live lifes outside of here, but there is also many of us who saw this problem becoming almost epidemic 2 years ago.. its either do something, or just live with it and pay the bandwidth..

you could make a link the size off a cinder block, people still wont click on it..

Actually that's a really good idea. The only issue I see with that is if you get someone who is very experienced and signs up on the site for the first time. That person would be labled as a newbie but really isn't.

Good idea, but somewhat arbitrary and unfair to those who have a legitimate question and have to, for all practical purposes, post ***** until they can ask it. In implementation, would people then search for the answer? Or would they post ***** to get passed the 10 post minimum (further adding clutter)? I suspect most would do the latter.

The 50 post minimum for selling items is similar in that it makes people post.

Stupid questions that have already been asked were around since day 1, sadly. Not sure it really became epidemic in 2004, but it's always a problem with every busy forum.

I've seen some "contact us" forms on websites that run a query against their FAQ's or knowledgebase before allowing the form user to send an email to the company. How about applying the same concept to our technical forums?

Make it so that when a user submits a new thread, that it automatically runs a search for the keywords from the thread body and returns it to the user. That way if he/she finds the answer in the search results that prevents a new thread on the same subject.

I am actually on board with DaFarmer, put a limit on what they can do. No one is saying that they shouldn't contribute, just not start them till they meet the criteria.
