for sale

I am still trying to post on the for sale forums. I think the required postings should be lowered because most of the time we reply to posts and dont start ones. I mean we reply more than we post.

Do you mean starting threads vs. regular posts? I think there may be some confusion on your part....Your post count includes all posts in appropriate areas. Some examples of areas that do not count toward your count are Off Topic, the Regionals, and Newbie/FAQ. Your concerns are noted, but getting to 50 legit on-topic posts is not all that hard. Just takes a bit of time and a genuine interest in this site. Just my opinion, hope it helps.

I don't know if it's possible, but is there a way to have membership time be a factor (ie - 50 posts or 6 months)?

Well, it is actually 50 on-topic posts AND 1 month as a member. I omitted the time factor since the OP has been here longer than that. Interesting you bring that up though.....we recently had a member of 2 years post items for sale....he had 0 on-topic posts and less than 5 all together....would you buy from him?? I'm not saying he is a bad guy, but how do you know?
Our aim here with these rules is to limit the amount of scammers on this site. I'm sure you have seen the " scammed by XXXX" and "does anybody know XYZ, he owes me parts/money" threads. By making sure the seller is a contributing member to this community, we try to minimize the risk to all members. It is not perfect, but it is our best way to help everybody here at EvoM. If we lock it down, nobody wins. If we make it a free-for-all, everybody suffers. These are my personal observations. The official rules can be found here:

I hope this helps.

+1000 i think it give members buying on here a little more peace of mind that in order to sell/buy you have to be an active member and it helps to weed out scammers as much as possible. There will always be dirtbags though so eliminating scammers is pretty much impossible.

If he was in the regional sales and I met him in person, yes. I get what you mean though... I guess someone can turn scammer after a year or two of membership but I don't think many true scammers will let an account sit for 1 or 2 years just to be able to start scamming in the future. I doubt they have that much forethought - plus they might be planning to be in jail by then

Time isn't really a valuable factor assessing credibility. Someone could easily spend a year checking prices and going rates without ever posting. We'd rather not lend credibility to that behavior. The 50 posts/30 days Thresholds are not all that hard for a legitimate seller to achieve.

I guess cause I only used to post in my regional forum huh???

It would seem to me that posting in your regional forum should count towards your post count. Credibility is gained through actually wanting to interact or meet with local, often more active people on this forum. My 02 cents.

We place a higher value on technical discussion, honestly. Yes, it's great that you can come here and B.S. with your friends, but we want you to contribute and help out.

Right, like encouraging people to attend a local rally...a motorsport that needs support from members of this site.... or trying to find out where good places are to work on my car...not really BS but I see your point...

Not all regional is not contributing, but since much if it is not, there is no way to make certain ones count and others not. Therefore the whole section does not count. I find that the only people that do not like this rule are those that do not have enough posts. I have never heard anyone with enough posts say its a bad rule and frequently here people with more posts asking to raise it. I really think it contributes to the very low number of scammers we see. I realize it is inconvenient to many, but thats better than loosing you money.

I think it also contributes to have very active tech sections where some other sites see most traffic in regional and off topic.

B.S. wasn't exactly what I meant. Although honestly, B.S.ing is the only reason I post in my regional forum. My locals tend to just joke around alot.

I just mean that the Regionals generally have less technical discussion that our other forums. As Charles said, we try to keep you safe.

The regionals are also the least moderated area (and thus most open to "abuse") by those trying to appear legitimate.
