Why do people delete prices in FS threads?

I totaled my Evo, and am trying to price things out. This makes it very difficult... as a seller, I don't know if I'm charging too much or too little and it's probably frustrating for buyers.

Every part out thread I go into doesn't have pricing.

If you are charging too much you will either be told that or no one will post or PM you about the parts.

I've wondered that, too. I have no idea why they do it. If you want a good starting point on prices, though, just knock a bit off the retail price and negotiate from there.

That's obvious and unnecessary to state. If you thought about this a little longer, you'd realize I don't want to lowball myself on parts that should go for much more. The point is to get market value for the parts and not undercut myself.

Thanks for contributing.

I think people delete the price so that others wouldn't know what they sold it for. Or another reason is they just wanted to delete the entire post after they sold it! That's what i do after I sell something.

I see that part of it, of course, people could just get "sold" next to it. I haven't seen that on other car forums before however. It's like people are embarassed to sell things here.

I generally delete my whole post and just replace it with "sold". The reason for this is I have found when you just right sold next to the price, for some reason it gets overlooked and you still get PMs. Even a few times when i replaced the price with sold, I have received messages.

I supposed however if you left the original message and just put sold above it in huge red font, it would probably work

I typically contact the seller through PM and ask them how much they sold the item for.

No prices allows the person selling to potentially get a lot more money then they where expecting. If i say "this part - 10 bucks" and you where thinking "o boy i would have paid 20." well then I missed out on potential profit. Hence why sellers often have the buyers "make an offer".
If i missed the topic of this thread or this info was self evident, then bash the key board producing super cool rank outs and cuss words.

I've haven't had any trouble finding similar parts to figure out a good market value (for this website). I do an advanced search for a particular part and make sure to check the regional and the standard private sale areas.

Sometimes I'll see people deleting the price, sometimes they just write sold (I do the latter). But I'll always try to find 4-5 to get an idea. Good luck.

don't sell to the lowballers, or counter offer. It's amazing how many people would rather not sell than to spend time haggling. you can either get a haggled price or no price; seems like an easy option to me sometimes people lowball the price because they don't know what's it's worth, or what you are willing to take for it, either.
