KEVIN, I'm 23 years old and was always a consumer in this market. I now own my place in partnership with someone else and honestly, I'm not in it for the money. No one here is. If you try to start your own shop to become rich, you made a poor mistake. Time invested vs. money made is completely unreal. I spent 6 nights a week online answering pm's, e-mails, im's, posting things for sale and constantly trying to come up with ways to get more business. I probably invest 80-100 hours a week into this. If you dont believe it, ask my girl who gets neglected. If I wanted to be rich I would be in college right now going to school to be a DR or investment banker, or lawyer, etc...
About the non post of prices. I just loaded AEM's new unilateral sale policy. You dont believe how strict they are huh??? OK, well explain to me why AEM is creating a DNS (Do Not Sell To) list on their site and will be listing anyone on it that sells their products for under 10% under Jobber pricing. 30-4100 is the part number for AEM widebands. 10% off Jobber is 298$. If you know anything about widebands the common price is 235-255 shipped. I recently posted a group buy for 210 shipped and I got that e-mail sent to me yesterday from the VP of AEM sales. Still think its BS???
Go on any manufacturer's site and if they have a dealer application, read it. Please dont sit here and call all of us liars and not do ANY research. let me give you one more example:
I had a guy come into my shop and he was doing me a huge favor on some stuff from PC richard so I wanted to HOOK him up. Heres what he asked for and the pricing I gave him. ANY vendor should verify if these prices are good or not.
MB7-HDSS-450$
600210-270$
Cosworth 272's for EVO 9-540$
Supertech dual springs/retainers/seals/locators-330$
Walbro pump and install kit-75$
AEM wideband-225$
Steering column gauge pod-FREE
You know what he told me? He told me very calmly and respectively that those prices were no better then he was able to get online from numerous vendors. He said he was looking to buy all of that stuff and he EXPECTED to save a few hundred dollars going through me. He expected the cams for around 400$, clutch for around 300$, flywheel for 150-175$, valvetrain for around 250$, wideband for around 150$
I then spent 30 mins showing him my cost on parts and he told me he was blown away and at first didnt believe I pay what I pay. I showed him jobber and MSRP's which are usless in this whored out market anyway but still showed him.
In the end, I knocked off another 100$ off the total bill AND paid my partner 200$ cash to install a turbo timer, aem wideband and column pod. I lost over 200$ on the deal. Why did I do that? Because i then spent 4769$ through this guy at PC richard where I would have spent around 5500$ so it paid off for me.
BUT THIS IS HOW THIS BUSINESS IS. WD'S ARE SELLING BELOW DEALER PRICING TO THE PUBLIC AND THE PUBLIC THINKS THERES 40% MARKUPS GOING ON??? Then they wonder why EVERY vendor stepped up against YO Parts who then SOLD 1-2% OVER WD pricing to the public. Its really driving me nuts. EVERYONE EXPECTS TO BE HOOKED UP AND THEN EXPECTS THAT HOOKUP TO BE 20% OR MORE LESS THEN EVOM PRICES.
EVOM PRICES ARE RETARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tial 38's should be 299$ Because people would pay that
AEM Widebands should be 299$ Because people would pay that
ACT evo clutches (retail 650+) should be 525-550
Exedy twins should be 1650+ if not more
and what would I do with that $$ if I got that much for those products??? I'd buy more evos, break more parts and blow more money on them learning and posting results. I wouldnt be taking it and running away on vacation. The public would benefit because when the first guy posts "I blew my motor in my evo X" someone else could say "well talk to Steve over at Top Level because he blew up 2 motors and learned this and that and knows them inside and out"
If ecuflash was 200$, instead of free, then maybe the guy who made it would have it released already for the X. Maybe he would have a way to eliminate the MAF on 8's and 9's flawlessly. but its not 200$, its free so we have to ADAPT. read EVOLVE. its kind of ironic actually. Vendors have to EVOLVE OR GET OUT.
This is why I spend countless hours on the computer
This is why I take back used parts towards new ones
This is why people post crazy things in vendor sections like lowest price in the history of man
This is why people keep going lower and lower and lower and lower and lower and lower and lower and lower on prices.
I'm done ranting. MAP is real, WHORED pricing is real, Vendors starving is becoming a reality. If you dont believe it then I dont know what else to say

I believe th OP was simply annoyed at the added work of havening to get a price via M, and other posters have brought in a question as to if there is some malicious reason vendors do it. The reality is, they sell for extremely good prices here and they do it for a variety of reasons I already stated, most obviously though the MAP. Just because a company has MAP, does not mean it will not be violated. In fact probably all have to deal with violations. However, on a site like this, manufacturers are watching and I have received complaints time to time about violations of MAP. Ultimately, its the choice of the vendor to do so or not, but they are not doing it for any reason that would negatively affect the customer.

You're not getting my point. Go back and re-read some of my posts, and you'll see where I tell you I'm a Kawasaki dealer, so I know what it is like to run your own business. I also wrote that I don't doubt that some of you adhere to a MAP. My point is I believe MOST of it has nothing to do with it, and there are "vendors" on here that are simply using the enviornment to spew a bunch bs, which as Charles wrote, "annoys" me. As a consumer, I then send a PM or call, only to find out the "Lowest Price Ever" isn't. If you read my post(s) you'll also read that I have done research. I listed a group of products and asked which or how many of them were governed by a MAP. Being that I did my research, I know that at least some of them are not. I also looked at ads on here, then went to the vendors own site (if the vendor was concerned about abiding by a MAP, his site would be the first place where he'd adhere to it), to see whether or not the vendor looked to be adhering to a MAP. I have the credentials as a Powersports dealer to sign on with any of these companies as a dealer if I really wanted to check everyone's facts. Being that I have a day-job that takes most of my time and energy, I'm not (YET
) gonna do that. I also believe in doing business with retailers, so I'm not greedy enough to do this to buy my own parts at wholesale. I still believe that someone who comes in here with solid backing, and does business on the level could clean up in a realtively short time, however.-Back to the major point-
Sure there are gonna be some companies that have this policy. You apparently pointed out one. I for one also never wrote anything about vendors needing to sell their products for cost-which is what I got from your post you thought I'm doing. I'm basically stating that it's be nice to see a wave of honesty blow through the vendor "For Sale" section. I'm simply not gonna buy in to believing all the ads on here that preach crazy prices, but don't list said prices, are doing so because of a MAP. I've personally identified a few vendors on here that I'll do biz with. I've talked to 'em, and told them as long as they be honest with me, provide what they promise, and have REASONABLE pricing, they've got my biz. That's how I do business, and expect that out of those I do business with.
I also unfortunately thought I identified a couple of other vendors worth doing business with, got stung, and am having to clean up the mess. I'm communicating with them directly, and won't post up names on here, as I believe honest people make mistakes, will give people the benefit of the doubt, and give them the opportunity to rectify the situation before I go blabbing about a "dishonest" vendor(run-on sentence..yes I know).
Listen. I think we've beat this to death, and are gonna have to agree to disagree. If you do business honestly and on the level, you keep doing it, and don't worry about having to protect the others who don't. They need to be weeded out so the market can stabilize, and everyone can be happy doing business here.
Also to add to Speedlimit's comments, which are dead on:
When it comes down to a member or vendor, the member will win everytime. If a Vendor fails to treat our members properly, they can and have been removed from the site. We are aware how it looks from a reader standpoint when things disappear, but what most fail to see is when they come back and a vendor is removed, or when the issue is resolved and both are happy, or the customer was wrong and the vendor was being unjustifiably attacked. All three cases happen. Most often, violations complaints are cause by simple miscommunication that are easily cleared up. And how would you feel as a loyal vendor if you reputation and business were negatively affected over a stupid miscommunication that may have not even been your fault. So all we do is try to make it fair for both sides, and work with people to create resolutions. I should really sticky an FAQ about this topic, because i get comments about negative comments being removed all the time, and the first conclusion people jump to is that we coverup our vendors and screw members just for money which is ridiculous. No vendor is worth any of our members suffering.

This was just an example I believe that for smaller vendors you could be telling the truth.
Yo parts . com anyone?

^btw why is it when i type in their site it turns into ****
Not insulting anyone. Why should I speak rationally when you're the one who's not listening to what's being said by multiple people IN the industry. Anything we say or have been saying has been has just been brushed off as a conspiracy theory. With that being said, i'm done with this thread. There's no convining you of the reality of things.
I dont think steve got enough credit for this line. That is how most of us who are here and also own evo's do our business.
Hell I drive tractor trailer 9 hours a day, then come home and spend the rest of my time doing what steve said. I guess I do agree now with pm for price. Luckily I dont have to worry about it. I sell so cheap to start with its impossible to beat me. Its not cost effective. Unlike others I dont care if someone wants to beat me as I have a fulltime job.
I play this like monopoly, I always go and buy everything, if I loose who cares. But most vendors dont have this ability and need to help save themselves from others. So pm for price works.
Steve great comment.

I have to agree w/ Steve @ toplevel 100%. Thats exactly how I feel.
And the retail prices on ACT has gone up to $754.11 in MSRP now.. haha selling for $520-550 each barely put food on my table and I have 3 kids to feed!

Your world is one that is constantly under survelience by Ex-Cia types working for tier C companies who make parts for Evo's, lurking in the shadows just waiting to pounce if they sniff a dealer actutally doing the right thing and showing their cards.
Ironically, thes guys seem to only lurk around this site, because you can go to thousands of other enthusiast sites, where they also have vendors advertising, and they also list what their "Special Pricing For One Hour Only" is , in the actual ad itself.
I guess I'll go put my tin-foil hat on, and go watch the Zapruder film again

Actually Charles, they would go to the reseller's site itself first. When you become a dealer for whomever, you list your website on their forms, not so much websites you may advertise on. On top of that, ads are just a way of getting people to your own site where they actually purchase the goods. I haven't yet seen a site that had a bunch of product, but also had "PM for pricing" next to the product description. Even the guys on here can't get around the need to list prices on their sites, if they sell off them.
