Less Moderation
Less Moderation
The moderators remind of Hitler's SS soldiers. They are all to eager to tell you what you can and can't say and decide what is acceptable for this sight. That is a good and diligent job of moderation but they are not moderate. They are excessive. Maybe as a policy you could let the forum users (i.e. the heart) dictate their own discussions more with less interference. just a suggestion.
Inevitably this issue gets raised on every single bulletin board on the internet, bar none. I have been an active contributor to countless bulletins boards in my years, of a variety of subjects, and it just never fails that someone either feels that there is too much moderation, or not enough. Some people feel they are being "silenced", and some feel that they should be able to say whatever they want, whenever they want.
The bottom line is that the site administrator, in conjuction with the moderators of the board, have a policy on what is acceptable and what is not. This policy is enforced(rather lightly in my opinion), only when they deem it absolutely necessary. In every kind of communication, if we want it done so in a manner which is congruent with decency and in a mature and adult fashion, we need certain rules to guide us, and certain people in place to ensure these rules are enforced. Could you imagine if basketball had no rules? Baseball? Nascar? WRC? This is not to imply that we need to be watched like little babies, but simply to lay the groundwork of an adult bulletin board created for the benefit of others. Do you think that the people that are responsible for creating and maintaining this site want it ruined by a few losers who cannot control themselves? I think not.
Point is, the moderators are doing their job, which is to maintain an orderly bulletin board free of excessive trolling, ad hominem flames and excessive off-topic commentary. Every good, respectable bulletin board worth noting does this.
Methinks, if you don't mind me saying, that you are offbase, and out of line with your comments here, Pimpson. I do believe that most would disagree with your analysis, and agree that the moderators do a fine job.

Mordeth

point taken, however, Moderators here have been known to even delete posts from the Off-Topic forum that do not break rules. They are close and delete happy in my opinion, but I respect yours, not trying to give them guff, just putting my suggestion in the suggestion forum. I believe they are too harsh, you think they are too lax. There we go.
Here ya go.
First, I happen to agree with Mordeth, although I do think it is important to address these types of concerns. Good job (pimpson) in speaking your mind in a very mature manner. I applaud you./<
About a month ago, we have this thread going on requesting "more moderation" and one month later, here comes this thread
I can't speak for the other mod's but I think they deleted/modified threads out of valid reasons. As I have posted in the past, I think this still hold true:

In regarding to content/post control. Here is the problem, since our member base is so diversed, from 15-yr old HS kid who just got their first car, to college student and to a more mature group who own/waiting on the EVO, we're bounded to have difference in opinions. Furthermore, what I think is moderating is considered to be "**** control" to some members. Sometimes, it's very hard to handle it well and get the balance. If you do feel certain individual is not doing what he/she suppose to do, you might use to PM system to voice your opinion/comment directed to him/her. I'm pretty sure all moderators are open to suggestion and feedback.

I was unaware that posts in the offtopic forum were being outright deleted. Was it your post? What were the reasons it/they was/were deleted? Was it someone elses post? What did it say?
Couldn't have been because it was "offtopic". By definition it would have been in the right forum. Keep in mind that although the offtopic forum is designated for "offtopic" conversation, all other rules still apply and perhaps one of these other rules were broken. I assume that people are still expected to remain civil towards each other, not spam, troll, insult etc, even in the "offtopic" forum.
With a 3 second search I found this:

Forum Rules
The following rules apply to all members of Lancer Forums. They are there to insure a well-run board and to embrace meaningful discussions related to the Mitsubishi Lancer:
1. Absolutely no postings of pornographic (this includes nude) images. This is in order to protect the site from possible lawsuits.
2. Post subjects should not have any derogatory comments towards any race, gender, sexuality, ethnic background, or age.
3. The moderators and administrators of Lancer Forums have the right to close/move/delete any necessary posts.
4. All issues with members should be taken up by email or through the use of the pm system.
5. Excessive flaming will not be tolerated. Users who verbally assault other posters on a regular basis will be banned. Name-calling is not acceptable. Moderator's judgment applies here. "You are wrong" is not a personal attack; "You are an idiot" is.
6. New Topics should be posted in the correct forum.
7. When replying to a tech thread, the poster should have at least one of the following: additional content, a related question. Replies with useless, unrelated comments or questions will be deleted.
8. No cross posting allowed. Do not copy the text form a new thread for another thread in another forum. You may copy the link to the first thread and post in another forum if you feel that the topic is related.
Members that violate these rules will typically be warned. If the offense is repeated then they may be banned for a time determined by the administrators and moderators.

I found it rather easy to understand, and as a mature adult it shouldn't be all that hard to follow and adhere to. One thing worth noting is that the moderators have been granted the ability to use their own judgement in evaluating whether a post is offensive or violates the TOS. This is definately a smart idea, and every single referee/umpire does the same. It is called discretion. If one moderator gets a little "trigger happy", then I am sure that the site administrator will take care of it. There is no true benefit to over-moderating a forum(other than for the offending moderator himself).
I guess the issue for me is that I have yet to see any alleged abuse of power by our moderators, and if anything, they have been rather lenient. And don't forget, although I am sure that our comments/suggestions are welcome, ultimately the web master has carte blanche jurisdiction and authority. We are under no obligation to post here, and if someone can't follow a few simple rules then maybe he/she should find another board, or even better, create his or her own!
Regards,
Mordeth
all this fuss!
Moderation blah blah bleh... hehe j/k Mordeth, good points yet Moderators/Admin rule whether justified or not
BTW, speaking of Moderators... When is it my turn?
Trigger happy?? That is an understatement...

I don't believe the moderators have been deleting or closing posts without a valid reason. We actually keep "deleted" posts, just don't allow them to be viewed, so if you feel that a moderator was abusing his/her power, the best thing to do would be to email or pm me and the moderator and we can discuss the matter off the boards.
I think we're very lucky because we don't have power hungry moderators that other forums may carry. They joke, provide info, and learn just as we all do.

Hijacked the Entire Forum. I talk to a few of the moderators often and I assure you they're far from Hitlerish, unless you mean to tell me that Hitler is a perverse, twisted, laid back and funny individual.
