I am against signature pics. It is just one more things that the staff would have to keep an eye on.

As for larger avatars, I don't see a problem with a 25X25 pixel increase.

It is a tedious job, but we're not complaining.
Robert is a longtime Staff member and therefore the exception to the rule. You will notice there are not any other animated avatars here, this is the only exemption we are granting; and for good cause.

Policing animated avatars for the other 99,000 members is not something we really want to deal with. Sorry, but our current policy has to stand as is.

Policing them for what? Nudity? Not violence, obviously. I don't think it would really be that hard to police animated gifs in avatars for nudity. No harder to police than the normal avatars anyway, even if you were policing them for more than just nudity....

I think I have had this avatar since about Oct of 2004 without complaint... until now that is.

So pictures are just an issue when someone complains about them/reports them? Or is there a policy on images? Can you link me to the image policy if so?

I have no issue with it, I just find it absurd that you can have that, and some of the pictures I have posted have been removed (as well as a few other Utah Evo members). One that I remember in particular was a funny halloween costume. NSFW for sure, but I see no reason it was any different than your avatar, unless it was the fact that someone reported it and no one has reported your avatar.

Like I said, I have no problem with your avatar, I have no problem with any pictures on here at all, just a problem with "equal rights." I have a dream... Probably just me misunderstanding the policies on posting pictures.

I don't have mod powers in the West forum, so I can't see the deleted posts, but if it's a NWS Halloween costume, it's kind of hard to compare a pornographic picture of someone with an animated gif...

it's like saying Kenny in south park really dies every time.

Mind you, like I said, I can't see the deleted posts there, but when I think NWS costume, I can't think of any that where just bloody that would possibly get deleted. So i went with pornographic, which isn't allowed on this site at all.

You police our regular avatars correct? In as much, if you notice something that violates your rule set (which I have no idea what they are, link?) inside a thread that you read, or if an avatar is reported. I don't see how this system cannot accommodate a small animated avatar. Especially if users can complain, which is the only issue, if an avatar upsets forum members, then it is a problem (this of course includes moderators), I don't see the extra difficulty with allowing them to become animated. An animated avatar can be just as offensive as a static image. If you limit the size to something small (but larger than current because animated gifs are by default larger) you'll cut out anything sneaky.

Like I said before, we are not looking into allowing animated avatars at this point. If we decide in the future to re-visit this, we'll let you know. Thanks.

That's why I am asking. What is defined as pictures that can get deleted? Bloody violence is okay, pornographic (of any kind) is not? What defines a picture as pornographic by EvoM's standards?

And you mean it is kind of hard to compare a pornographic picture of someone to an animated gif (like yours), right?

And Kenny really does die everytime, then a new one gets born, haven't you seen that episode?

I can respect that. But I would really appreciate you justifying your previous statement about policing animated avatars. I simply want to understand why you believe it is something that will cause extra trouble.

that doesn't quite look like a Halloween costume

for the most part, if you wouldn't want young children or you boss looking at it, don't post it.
personally, I wouldn't want the above picture seen by kiddos

I believe it would cause trouble now if re-introduced because it has in the past, hence our prohibition of animated avatars for about 4 years now. I and the rest of the Staff have our hand full as it is with folks thinking ***** and butts are perfectly fine for avatars, I shudder to think what would happen if we again allow animation. On top of that, we have the broken search engine issue we're dealing with and a host of other things the members never see. My point is, we have enough on our plate now occupying our time and I think the animated avatar issue is a pretty low concern when compared to search engine issues, etc and best tabled for now, to be discussed at a later time.
