closing threads

I've noticed a pronounced incidence of thread closing. These are threads that may have been dealt with over the years. Some of these threads might be relevant being restarted and some maybe not.

My question is, why do you close them. Saving electrons? Is it a hardware/ software cost issue? By the time some of the treads are closed they have run their course anyway. It just seems odd, like how a woman acts sometimes.

I don't see the harm in some of the threads that have been started continuing on.

Is it a personality issue with some of the mods?

Just interested in knowing the logic behind the scenes.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Threads are closed at the moderators desecration. If its on a subject that is very common, been asked/answered/covered - then it gets closed.

Its about clutter and messes. Having 20 threads with barely any use, or linking to another thread that has all the answers makes the search functioning work harder to find the good thread in the bunch.

we close threads to making searching easier and more accurate...I close a lot of threads on a weekly basis...most are because the op's are too lazy to search and secondly, because the thread has no positive value (aka bickering and untrue information)

also when you make a thread like this...it helps to use examples otherwise we don't know what thread specifically initiated the question you brought up

Threads are closed at Moderator judgment using many of the reasons cited above. In addition, sometimes a thread gets too derailed to make it worth saving, so we just find it easier to close rather than clean it up and issue infractions to 20 people.
