He's not MAKING you pay. It's optional.

 

You dont' have to pay to use the forums at all. Paying members would receive benefits, such as free tshirts with their name on it, free decals, member cards, for special deals we can gather, etc. This is all in addition to the site itself and does nothing to take away from it.

I think the pay issue is a delicate matter. First of all why pay? I think the reason why this site is flying so high because of all the EVO enthusiasts, mitsubishi owners and future owners. But if you put some value in it, that would leave some out and the supposedly car is not even in the US yet.

Expanding the mitsubishi line would be a good idea because it will cater to other models and income for the site can be generated by ads to like 4x4 equipments, accessories and other offroad products. Maybe a percentage of sales can be taken for the use of the site but not an upfront membership. If you have a good product, there will be buyers.

I'd assume because it cuts down out of pocket expenses for Mark. It could also allow for a different or additional server(s) if the need should arise. Seeing how much Mark's given us I think it's safe to assume the more that gets put in the more we'll get back as users. I think Paying as an option, perhaps for some special features (lower post delay or something. plus the shirt, decals, or whatever) but not requiring would be ideal. I think that's what KK had in mind (minus the post delay thing) but maybe I just read more than what was there.

I can forsee licensing issues. If you want a ralliart or mitsubishi shirt you should probably go to their sites/stores. (And no, I don't mean that in a mean way)

 

I think it'd be a good idea for mods to be free getting that stuff, and I'm not just saying that because I am one... but I like all of KK's ideas, he's cool, and I like the things he's proposing.

I think the pay option is reasonable; we often forget who is paying for this in the backend of things (along with TIME and EFORT) to keep this forum going...I wouldn't mind helping the guy out.

 

All your ideas sound good Mark. You have my support. I do agree with Claudius in that we need a further separation of vehicles, specifically a larger gap between Lancers from Evo's, US from European, etc. In fact, I would be all for an entirely separate site for Evo's(yes the demand is that big). Adding the entire lineup of Mitsu cars would also be an idea to at least pursue to some extent. Another idea(in line with the pay feature) might be a periodic mailer of some sort, filled with whatever tickles your fancy that is Mitsu/Lancer/Evo related. I am sure that idea alone could be expanded upon 10 fold.

My only other comment is that as a moderator, I would still be HAPPY to pay for the extra benefits. For one, I understand that if you are providing a t-shirt, decal etc to us, that this costs money out of YOUR pocket. Number two, unless your expectations/demands of moderators suddenly goes extremely high(it's quite low right now, and understandably so), I do not see how I could justify demanding free stuff for providing such a small service. And three, I do not think that this needs to be discussed here on these public boards, and should be taken to the moderators forum(if mod's pay or not).
