Searchable Inbox ?

Is this something that can be added ? Even if we could sort our inbox by member, or search it for key words, that would be great. Maybe we can do this already and I missed it, but man it is a royal pain sifting thru 3000 PMs looking for the needle.

Hi!

I'm sorry, but I'm not aware of any feature to search an inbox. Thanks.

Bob..

Is there any way to add such a thing ? It would be helpful for sure. Not only to vendors and mods/admins, but to the standard user as well.

I understand the problem as I have around 5,500 PM. Again, I'm not aware of any plugin, however I will check. You can download all your private messages into a program such as Excel, then search them. Not very elegant but it will work.

Not a bad idea... hopefully there is a plugin. Maybe get the inbox to act as the general forum so to speak and get the search this forum function to be active. Thanks for looking into it.

vB 3.8 added some filtering options, and I think vB 4 has searchable PMs.

Yeah, vB 4 does have a nice filter feature for PMs. You can filter by sender, subject, read/reply status, and date.

Hey guys,

You are able to search your PMs, for whatever you want.

Download them all to your computer, as txt, xml, or csv, and then you can open them up in whichever style program suits you, and search away. By keyword, date, sender, etc.

cheers,
robb

That is a such a pain to do every time you have to look for something which seems to happen quite a bit. When you are receiving as many PMs as we all do, looking for the needle in a hay stack response is sometimes difficult. As well as when you are accessing the site while mobile and dont have the ability to download and search that way. A simple filter function as mentioned above what be a great asset to everyone.

Hey Jason,

That is totally a good point, and I do appreciate it. I just wanted to let people who may not know, that there are ways to achieve this currently. I don't think it's possible to enable PM searching with our current set-up, but I will definitely make sure it's something we look into adding if not to this version, when we do our upgrade to vB 4.x when it's ready for a site this large.

cheers,
robb

I was well over 4k PMs at one point, and had no problem using the above method before I mass deleted them. To me, nothing is faster than CTRL + F.

Hi Jason,

I'd be happy to teach you a way to accomplish this

If you would go to this link, sign up, and download the dropbox app: http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTczNTU3OQ

Download all of your PMs as text to your computer.

Place the text file in your newly created dropbox folder (this works on Mac or PC).

Now, go to the app store, and download this:
http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/dropbox/id327630330?mt=8

The dropbox iPhone app.

Open it, sign in, and voila, you'll have access to the text file on your computer. Open the file, scroll down a bit, and a search bar will appear

Enter your search terms, and enjoy searching through your PMs on your iPhone

cheers,
robb
