Question Uhm okay why was my thread deleted?

I just posted a thread in Evo General asking a question I had after taking a test drive in an Evo today.

The question was regarding downshifting.

The thread had one reply so far which I'd just finished reading and was about to reply to when suddenly the thread disappeared.

I checked all other Evo forums and cannot find it!

I went into my profile and did Search for All Other Posts by This User and it was not listed there either!

Please explain why it was deleted! I'd like to know because I am about to post it again since I would like an answer to the question I asked in the thread!

Thank you.

So far, it sounds like one of the mods was being an ***. I haven't heard a good reason for the delete yet...

what are you talking about?

I asked politely two days ago for an explanation as to why a thread I started in the proper forum was deleted. It was a very simple thread with a simple technical question and it disappeared. It even had one reply which I had just read and was about to respond to since the reply was offering a possible solution and asked me a couple pinpoint questions to help find a solution.

I think I am fully justified in a slightly-sarcastic (far from being an ***, mind you) reply two days later when someone who was so swift to delete my thread can't even be bothered to take a moment to offer a reason why. (Likely because there was no reason and it was a random and poorly-implimented action.)

It would take me a while to retype the post again and I'd rather know in advance why it was deleted before I spent the time crafting it again.

I wondered the same thing....about a month ago...i posted a post about a Sunoco gas station that gave me regular gas...I was *****ing about the gas station and i asked many people what should i do, i.e. - pump it out, get octane booster, etc, etc..... then the next day it was deleted...i just dont like the jobs the mods do SOME of the time....other times they are cool

i think of it as this is their house and we are guests so they can do what they want and we do not have any real rights to their possessions

moderators have many reasons for deleting threads. a lot of times it's because of reposts. remember how everyone keeps touting to search a forum before posting? if every single one of those "reply says to search" threads showed up in a search, it would be impossible to find any answer.

another reason is the possibility of flaming (although in this case, this is not the issue). no one wants a huge open flamed discussion sitting on page 1 of a forum.

one other reason is that someone may have been an ******* in his initial post or asked a question in such a way that a moderator saw it unfit to stay.

and of course, it could have been an accident and the thread wasn't meant to be deleted, but was on accident. crap happens.

just remember, mods are humans, and aside from a few extra priveledges, they're no different from any other member on this board.

Seems like most (if not all) the mods are out. As for your thread, I can't find a reason why it was trashed. It'll take a while till we get the other side of the story. For now if you like, post it up once more. If you need me to send you the whole post via PM, tell me.

That would be appreciated! I don't feel like typing it all out again!

tenkawa_akito and pgmike - generally if that was the case (already been discussed) a mod should say "use search" and lock the thread. Making threads mysteriously disappear will keep people from wanting to take the time to post anymore. It is their house so to speak but if they don't make the house inviting for guests, few will bother to visit.

Hopefully, when we get the upgrade to the new vbulletin this will work out better as we can leave reasons for deleting threads.

For now, I'll see if we can use a different method to better explain actions.

Well if it's any help, every other forum I frequent uses a system where the mod replies to the thread with the reason he/she's locking it and then locks the thread. Pretty simple way to do it and that way when the thread author or people who replied to it check on the thread they can see it's been locked and also why.
