Question I gotta ask

Why is it that posting in all caps denotes a warning? I'm sorry but that just seems like the stupidest thing i've ever heard... I'm sure it is posted all over the place that you shouldn't do it, but why? I can understand if i cursed a person off or made an appalling comment, but posting in all caps? What are you grammar *****?! I mean don't get me wrong... if there is a valid reason fine, but don't you think this is being a wee bit picky?

Have you ever seen a book published all in caps? Would you read that book if it existed? I wouldn't. It's really obnoxious to read, and it makes posts look less professional than they already tend to be. My experience has been that most people who post all in caps either have broken keyboards or desparately need a clue. To put it bluntly it's to keep our on-topic, and especially tech forums, looking a little more clean and easy to read.

Caps are considered "yelling" on the internet as I'm sure most of you already know, and personally I think it makes the poster look like a moron. But that's just me. It's certainly a pet peeve of mine. The bottom line is it's KK's forum and he makes the rules.

We're not grammar *****, but it is nice to read proper english sentences and structure from time to time.

To my knowledge I beleive I put 3 words in a row in all caps. Again I have to wait for timzcat to pm me back to find out where all these caps were. But as I recall out of all my postings, there were only 3 words (in a row) that were capitalized. Now just as a question, does that mean I get warned if i have one word, two words, etc in all caps or if the whole post is in caps? I was always taught in my language classes that when you want to stress an idea and it is not a formal essay or anything you should capitalize. You are right these are kk's forums and if that's how he wants it, then so be it. However if you could answer my question about the caps that would be great. Oh and unless the capitalization is consistent, in my humble opinion, I think that has very little to do with a person being a "moron".

Just as a sidenote: if you want to stress an idea, you can always use bold or italics or underline or some combination of them. Just a thought.

Well thanx for the notion. I'll keep that in mind. I just never thought i'd catch so much heat for putting a few words in caps...

That is incorrect. This was your post that earned you the warning.

That would be 14 words.

This is the link to that thread.

The reason you got the warning was because your whole post consisted of writing that was all in caps. If you use caps to bring attention to one or 2 words, that won't get you warned. But typing a whole post that way will.

Posting in all caps is an 'old school' no-no way back from the bbs pre internet days. It's obnoxious, annoying and hard to read for some.

was that the whole post?

I'm pretty sure he used all caps to mock the tone of the weakest link woman.

I understand if people are writing in all caps about generic BS, but I think something like his post should be overlooked.

If you'd say this was in relation to a warning we could have cut to the chase.

Generally speaking the rule is to avoid paragraphs of all caps posts, but in the future...if you want to make something stnad out, use the bold and/or italic or size functions. This sort of thing is at the moderator's discretion.

No wonder I didn't remember the post... it was from a week ago. Well thanks for answering my question SC. I didn't realize how inconvenient or hard to read for some, it was to read posts in all caps. In that particular post I was mocking dealers that deny warrenties. May I just make a suggestion to the moderators and i know your job is hard enough... but would it be possible for you include a link to the particular post in the PM? Sorry for the inconvenience...

I believe there is a link in the original warning that gives the url.

Can you see your warning level in the lower right hand side of every post you make?

If not, and if the warning pm doesn't automatically list the url, we'll have to talk to Mark to see if that functionality can be added.

Hey Ralph, Regular members cannot see warning levels in the lower right corner like we can... all they see is:
