adding "jap" to the censored words list

Should we add the word "jap" to the censored word list? I think I speak on the behalf of a lot of people when as I find it offensive when I see all these people use it. Is there a way to censor it in a way to make it show up as "japanese" instead?

Also include Brit, for British, Yank, for American, Aussie, for Australian etc.... Lighten up buddy, it's people like you who have taken political corectness to the rediculous heights it's allready achieved.

It all depends on how you use it. On here it's not racial, I think anyways. Anyone that uses it is talking about parts or cars they make. For instance if someone said "those WOPs make a real sweet, fast car." Implying the Ferrari. I would not get offended, being 100% Italian.

Just like the "N" word being used for African Americans. Seeing how we censor so many other words on this board to be "PC", why not add this to the list.

If you ad it, and then have it replace "Jap" with "Japanese", that would be acceptable. I, for one, am very offended by it. It is a slur, and an offensive one at that. It is much different than "Brit" and the like.

I guess we won't be able to filter it then.. Oh well.. I guess we'll just need to start educating some people around here then.

that would be the better option. you can not control ignorance. you have to educate people about it so they will know the harm is causes. even if we could filter it out, that wouldn't solve anything. there can be hundreds of words that are offensive and we have no means to control them all. if someone uses any word in a matter which you find offensive, please report it to a mod and we will take care of this for you.

hmm one thing i personally hate is a racist or racist terms..( some can be funny though when said in jest) Prejudice is somethign that we as humans can never avoid...it is in our nature to Pre-Judge anyone or any situation this is what sets us apart from the animals is our ability to reason...and in reasoning we are always prejudging people situations and things........"jap" can be used in a "derrogatory" way if used improperly...if you were to say...hey i like those "jap bikes" well i guess it isnt bad but Im not japanese... If a Japanese person is offended by it we really should respect that...and respect that it may be offensive..and when using words in public forums be considerate of others.... If Japanese people find the term "jap" offensive then i think it should be banned....Funny thing/sad thing ..on University Drive near my house...there is an auto repair shop that says we fix Jap cars....i laughed at first at the ignorance of a shop owner who would put up such a thing...but then thought...that may actually offend someone...I dont want anyone bashing me ...or saying im a bleeding heart liberal or anything..because im not at all...I just think we are all finally on the road to more acceptance of others and less racism.. I dont think asking people to alter a few words not to offend others is too much to ask on a public forum..

well said John. trust me, if we could we would do it in a heartbeat. however, we really connot do it due to techincal issues because it will screwup a lot of other words which are not racist at all.

Yes, very well said John. I am not Japanese, nor am I some crazy liberal. I guess I am just more offended by the gross display of ignorance by some of the people on this board.

don't forget that we are talking about a pretty big internet forum with over 20k members. it is only normal that we will have quite a few ignorant people among us that do not understand the implications of using such words. we also have quite a few younger kids among us that still haven't experienced enough to understand such terms.
