Thumbs up Possibly moving to the DFW area and need some info?

Well looks like after 9 years of trying to get the hell out of PA and back home to Texas it might be finally happening. I'm looking for info on emissions and inspection and what all is required and what all do they allow (tinting, exhaust, ect.)? Any ideas on how how much it cost also? How is the car insurance down there? Thankfully I hit the 25 mark this year so I got a big break... woohoo. Also how is the car scene down there? And anything else not about the car that I should know about you can throw in there for me also.

When do you get to Texas? Here is all you need to know about TX and the Evo scene.

Also, I pay about 120 a month for ins. I am also 25. That is for State Farm.

As for the laws, we all ignore them anyways.

Well, first of all, you live in San Angelo.

Second, I grew up in San Antonio and live in Dallas. I didn't see anything appealing about PA either when I was there.

And for the record, I would never want to live in San Angelo. Have you been to San Antonio or Dallas and spent some time here or there?

yes, I go as much as possible - that's what keeps me sane. I didn't choose to live in San Angelo, that's where Uncle Sam put me. only 14 more months......

afaik if you have obd2 they just plug in in the dfw area and there aren't any emissions tests, and if you aren't throwing a cel you're good. and i pay about $180 for 2 cars full coverage 2 drivers. the only law that will get you is the front license plate it sucks. i've gotten 2 warnings in the evo so far. hope everything works out and you get to relocate!

some counties in the DFW area check emissions. depends on where your car is registered.

tinting, the max you can get is 30% tinting on windows because the law is "no more than 25%" and since all windows have a little in them, you can only put 30%. granted, i have never heard of a cop caring on 20% or so.

i asked a tech and he said they don't emission test unless it is obd1 or lower. so if you aren't pulling a cel you are good, since the obd moniters car efficiency.

in Collin county they did emission testing on my old 98 mustang which had OBDII and passed emissions fine. Maybe Terrell county is not doing it. I remember when they started doing it 2yrs ago because the price for inspection went from #15 to $38 because of emissions.

I also know in Dallas county they test emissions because when I had a sales job with the telephone company, I was talking to some small auto mechanic shops and they needed a second phone line just for their emissions results to send in to austin.
