Evo driving on 3 wheels!
Here's my buddy's Evo at the latest autocross. I was merely photographer that day
. I didn't realize I snapped him on 3 wheels until I went back to review the shots.

That depends on if he wants to stay in the same class or not... if he's gonna take it track racing ever, or doesnt care about what class he's in, definitly... It makes the ride bumpier, but anyone driving an Evo shouldn't be looking for a smooth ride... simply taking out the body roll makes the driver a million times more confident, when the car doesn't feel like it's gonna roll, you can push it a little harder... and that's not even considering the stiffer suspension and alignment and all that stuff
What I suggest he does if he hasn't already and wants to stay in the same class is get an alignment, and not from the dealership either, we're talking have him do some research and get it set up... I got lucky and inherited (bought) my suspension from someone who had tracked their Evo, I had an instant track setup and the person did an alignment for me too.
If he wants to cheat and stay in the same class... have him get an ECU flash, duh...
Actually THE best mod you can do for autocross or track is get appropriate tires... Auto-x made tires tend to shave off up to 3 seconds, I know they did on our S2k

going to R tires will improve your times the fastest, but will also slow your learning curve. they will hide the little mistakes you make that you will normally see when driving on street tires. stay with the street tires until your winning your class with them. then go to the R tires. and if you don't believe you can't winout R tires, you haven't raced enough. i'll show you a video of a STI on street tires pulling FTD with even beating B mod cars. thats called skill.
there is so much tweeking that can be done with the car, but the biggest improvement will be made in the driver. hands down. just keep going to events and he/you will get better. and that 3 secs will be 0 in no time.

yeah, well, it depends on your defintion of 3-wheeling... Trail-braking into a corner and having all 4 tires EQUALLY planted on the ground is something I don't see very possible... I don't have any tires come off the ground 100% anymore... but I still call it 3 wheeling when a large portion of the weight is off one of the tires. Tomato Tomatoe... Sorry I wasn't clear, 3 wheeling to me isn't always one wheel coming fully off the ground. I doubt there are many cars that their weight isnt shifted away from 1 wheel and onto 3 at certain points in racing.

god i love that video!
UT: yeah definitions can be different for some. but obviously on a hard turn your weight will shift dramatically to the outside leaving the inside tire light. a properly tuned suspension setup will keep the tire from lifting in all but the most extreme conditions (the tire lifting unsettles the cars balance and will slow you down). if you have it dialed in so that your tire isn't physically leaving the ground 100% then your doing good, and i wouldn't call it tripod mode, i would call it weight transfer.
