If you like thick forrest and hills, go with east Texas, if you like some trees and rolling hills go with north down to central Texas, if you want desert... well go west, and if you want to have something in between go just east of Fort Worth and draw a line straight down.
If you're looking for a place north of Dallas by 40 miles, that puts you in Gainesville, lots of land, lots of ranches, go 4 miles south you have Denton, my hometown--which is like a large college town in the respect you have everything you need.
The closer you get to Dallas from denton --granted there is an ok swath of land between the two 35's west of Lewisville-- the more urban/suburb/commerical land you see. Keep that in mind as well as the fact that Texas is a big state allowing you many different options.

If you are not hispanic prepare for culture shock. One nice thing is that you are only about an hour or so from the ocean. Enjoy and give us your thoughts after you've been there for a few weeks! I wish you luck my friend.
Grew up in West Palm Beach for 20 years. Moved out to Dallas a few years ago. Ain't movin' back, fo sho.
I'm gonna reiterate what most folks said here. You think Dallas is rude? Holy crap. Check out the NorthEast. Have fun dealing with those miserable people. They live in misery, and they let everyone else know it. Eff that....

I've worked in different areas, Seattle WA, Dallas TX, Arlington TX, Houston TX, Different locations in Southern California, NYC, Long Island NY, and a few others I"m forgetting..
By far the BEST experiences I've ever had with people, and hospitality in general has been the trips I've taken to Texas.. So much so that I've decided thats where I want to be (obviously
) I'm one of those guys who were born and raised near a city, in the suburbs.. and always felt there was something missing, that sense of community an small-town life.. So I don't want to be too close to a city when I do get down there.. I've always dreamed of having my piece of property that I can do my thing on.. Etc..
Soon.. Very soon.. Also, everyone I've ever spoken to who is a Texas Transplant, says they never regretted moving from another place to texas..
I'll probably end up north of Dallas near the rest of my family.. But I'm hoping to stay away from the Urban/Suburbs, but not too far that I can't drive to work, work would be in the northern suburbs of Dallas (trying to keep it within a 50-60 mile radius of the location of my job)
Dallas is too flat.
And I hate Plano, full of stuck up superficial **** who think they are the **** just because they are seen in their $3,000 LV purses and $70,000 luxury cars.
Other than that, Dallas ain't so bad, at least it's not Houston

But I do agree that Dallas is flat and the roads are too straight. Still not representative of Texas though. Go south and find heaven in Austin and San Antonio.
dallas is the place to be..
dallas does not suck. man, I love it hear
. I have been hear all my life. everywhere I go, people always tell me how sweet my car is
and one other thing, the girls are the best in dallas.

Honestly, I find Austin to be one of the friendliest cities in the States. When I was in New England, people on the street wouldn't never say 'Hi' when I greeted them, people at the grocery wouldn't even say 'Hi'. WTF? Sure we've got rednecks, hippies and crazy gun-toting/confederate flag bearing extremists here, but at least most of them are courteous dammit.

.I've heard nightmares about Houston and its traffic, but Dallas traffic isn't exactly a driver's delight either. Just like any big city, there's gonna be morons behind the wheels...
Mika(I'll take Texas before Florida, unless I'm bankin' 6 figures)

Half of Plano is white trash. The other half are well off financially. Why is it your concern? Are you trying to be their friend and they won't let you? Why so much concern with other people? Maybe you should worry about yourself.

Southern FL may be flat, but at least they got nice beaches in So. FL, so there's something to make up for it
