At least in H-town it is done through the obd2 port, if all readiness is set your golden. The sniffer test is only for OBD1 95 MY and older

they just look for obd2 readiness set codes if all is ok it will say pass. It's like 12 emissions tests your ECU does every time your engine starts. If any of them fail it usally triggers a CEL and you will fail emissions. The other part is the inspection is for Safety, ie thread depth, lights, horn, brakes etc.

I think it was Assassin who just passed emissions on his. Best part, he left his test-pipe in. You'll have to ask him about the details, but it was up here in N. Tex. So maybe they're different even though its a state thing? (well, technically, emissions testing is a federal law, just states choose to obey it or not)

I used to joke with my freinds that one day we would have to pay a TAX for air. It's not a joke anymore!

So can you just reset your battery to remove the CEL, if you have one, and then have it pass emissions?

Thumbs up

move to FL where they GOT RID of emissions 2 years ago. OR move here to AZ where all they can do is an idle check cuz they don't have an AWD set of rollers & don't do emissions until the vehicle is 5 yrs old...

I would think so only if they don't use the sniffer. If it looks stock and the ECU does not show any codes. Hope mine passes. I am going to try and I will let you know.
