Evo Friendly Shops - Houston - Clutch Install

Does anyone have a recommendation on a Houston shop that has experience with EVO 8 clutch installs? Seems trickier than most, and I'd rather go to someone with experience.

Widebandphillip has already recommended SGP. Anyone else have the same recommendation, or any suggestions on local shops?

Thanks.

Two weeks ago I had an ACT Street Clutch and Fidanza Flywheel installed at CarBoy on Bissonnet. The work seems solid to me. I absolutely love the clutch feel. I'll have a better idea how good it is after my track event this weekend at MSR-Houston.

Mine was not CarBoy's first Evo. They said they'd already done a few. In fact, when I went they had another Evo in the shop up on a lift with the transfer case pulled out. (I won't name names, but I recognized the car as being owned by someone who posts here.)

I looked into SGP before picking CarBoy. SGP came highly recommended, but when I talked to them on the phone they tried to talk me into a twin-plate carbon clutch, which is monstrously expensive and just a wee bit of overkill for a bone stock Evo, even one that gets tracked as much as mine. Carboy recommended the ACT (which I'd pretty much already decided on) and was about 10% cheaper on the labor than SGP.

CarBoy was also a whole lot easier for me to get to. But if I lived up off 1960 I might have gone with SGP, even with the more expensive labor. Both places came highly recommended.

CarBoy calls it a 2-day job, so I had to leave the car overnight. I got it back almost exactly 24 hours after I dropped it off.

Clutch install

I was also told SGP is good and that labor for that was $400.00 How much was Carboy? I am highly interested as a broke owner with a clutch install need within the next 2 months. Thanks,

Sigfrid

I hear that. Most of us are broke as hell. Since I am new to this board and I would like to get to know the community. I am willing to take off 20% on my labor fees. I usually charge $425 for an awd 2g dsm. I can do this for the next 3 months for all labor for all the evo guys on the forum. That would come out to $340 for a clutch install. I try to be fair and post all my labor prices on the web. http://htown-dsm.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=847. An evo would basically fit in under the 2g awd section.

Next time we have a dyno run. I would like to hold a boost leak test day, the day or week before. Like $20 a test.

FWIW the hour labor standard for the clutch R&R is 9.9 hours.
