I was in Slidell, LA the day after Katrina. Not on the ground but in the air.

How long were you displaced from your home? How long you been back?

I feel for you and everyone in that area as it was something one has to see with their own eyes to truly believe. Slidell was one of the hardest hit areas in the greater NO area.

Glad to have you here!

I'm not in Louisiana currently but I lived in Chalmette, St. Bernard Parish for 28 years of my life before joining the Navy. I am now stationed in Oak Harbor, WA. I went and visited "home" back in October. I am still in total shock at seeing Chalmette, mid city - city park, the lower 9th ward, the lakefront, and pretty much the entire New Orleans, St. Bernard, and Jefferson parishes. Nothing is the same. Katrinia changed everything and ruined a terrific place. I did not get a chance to visit Slidell or drive through Mississippi but I'm sure the damage is equally as devastating. It was gut wrenching to see that Fitzgeralds and everything along the lake out by West End was gone. The Coast Guard lighthouse was almost on the ground - sad. I hope Louisiana and Mississsippi can recoupe from this and I hope the Louisiana State Government and the Federal Government can strengthen the leeve sytem so this massive flooding will not happen again. They say 2 miles of the secondary leeve broke in St. Bernard which was the largest of the 3 main levee breaks.
Next time I take a long leave period to visit friends back home, I'll post up here and see if I can't find some fellow EVO owners to hook up with. Take care and God bless.

Funny you say ricers. When I was recently back in Louisiana for New Years leave I saw more riced out Honda's, Escorts, Saturns, and even a bright green riced out Mustang GT. I felt out of place in my GG MR. I never really saw any other cool imports except one night when I was cruising down Vets in Metrarie, I stopped at the light by David dr. and a twin turbo 300Z pulled up alongside me. When the light turned green we hit it and did about 100mph down Vets - glad no JP's were out that night.
I will not be going back to Louisiana for some time because the 2800 mile ride from Washington state to Louisiana and back is very costly. Like I said though, the next time I do cruise down - I'll post up here and see if I can't hook up with some fellow EVO owners. Take it easy and good luck with getting a group of EVO's and other bad a@# imports meeting at the Lakefront. Wish I could join ya.

I live in Slidell 05' EVO, but being married with 4 kids, work, etc my time is pretty scarce. The lakefront is defunct you're best bet to hang out with local import enthusiasts is sportsnimports.com or nostreetracing.com as far as EVO owners go I don't know.

Good luck.
