It seems (among other factors) from the whole of the failures in the Evo community that the factory fluid cannot withstand the prolonged increase in stresses caused by greatly increased power/torque output. This is primarily in the context of heavy street or track use.

This assumes in part that the failures occurred while using the *correct* factory fluid, which has not always been the case, and appears to follow in principle to the gearbox as well.

The common wisdom is to upgrade the fluids you use just like you upgrade everything else on the car to achieve higher performance.

Ethan, I don't think we know near enough about the situation to make any judgements. I spoke to John Shepard this morning when I ordered my tcase, and he sold me a gallon of diaqueen with it. We will discuss at greater length tomorrow night at the meeting.

Sure we can discuss. There have been many TC failures experienced by people other than the locals in this thread. I have been researching this for quite some time on both sides of the Atlantic, and have also discussed with folks who road race their Evos at the national pro/am level.

With this research, certain common factors boil to the top. There's no negative reflection on anyone local, just research and facts. There is solution to every mechanical problem...so this thread should provide information on solutions for everyone's benefit.

Your point about Shep is valid in the respect that he sold you the correct fluid. Keep in mind that drag racing places dramatically different demands on components than does prolonged heat and stress loading. Think about how many stress cycles occur during just one lap of a road course. Although Shep is an undisputed top authority in the import community, one must keep in mind that the racing world is much bigger than the Mitsu community.

See you soon!
