Any Shops/Dynos East of DFW
Any Shops/Dynos East of DFW
Okay folks.. I live about 30 miles East of DFW
I'm looking for a good shop that isn't too far that I can tune my car at, perhaps get some installs done now that I have no free time (and no backyard shop with a lift any longer) Looking for an AWD Dyno, and reputable shop.
I live near Redline Raceway, but its an 8th mile track, I need to make some changes to my car if I want to be competative there (Clutch, Driveshaft, CV upgrades, that sort of thing).

not sure if autoscope is still around, but there were in garland and had an awd dyno... it was a dynopak i think...
they don't deal with evos much though, in fact the only one i know they did was gilloumes 2.4 4g64 car with a green. but since i haven't seen or heard from him in a long time, i question if the car is even running or the shop went out of business. when i last tuned it, it had electrical gremlins (map sensor signal for AEM was either getting noise or had a loose connection somewhere as it would go from 24psi to 0psi and back to 24 psi in 3 time samples... you can only imagine what that does to the ignition timing and thus knock.). the guy doing the work said he would fix it but i haven't heard back since. that was 6 months ago at least. the only other AWD dynos are alamo, and gotham.

Well, that certainly leaves the market open.. But its obviously not that good for me at the moment since the only time I'm anywhere near Dallas is when I'm at work (Plano/Richardson)
actually autoscope is in Plano and is still open...last i spoke with my neighbor he is planning on taking his 335 up there for dyno runs so they have at the minimum single axle setup dynopak.
autoscope is on the south west corner of plano parkway and coit. behind the gas station and enterprise. i've had my evo up there a few times. drive line fluid changes.

I wouldnt recommend taking anything to autojoke unless you have to. I used to have a supercharged M3 that I made the mistake of letting them work on. Bad things...retarded prices.
Autoscope is crazy expensive for sure. I had my R32 corner balanced there and chipped back about 2 years ago. After JR left and the guy that drives the silver Beetle user name 007 I quite going. I'm positive they are still open though. I would take it to Gotham Steve is a cool guy and last I talked to him his dyno was fixed. I personally won't ever go back to Alamo for anything. Ever. Just my .02's. Jotech also has a dyno they are in Plano as well.

autoscope is expensive but because they use dynopaks, i think my buddy was charged 135 for a dyno there, not sure on the tuning, but as far as other shops its alamo or gotham really.
Boys, stay AWAY from Autoscope!!!!! I just worked on a friends 2003 330Xi after she took it in to Autoscope to have a few things looked at. She went in for an airbag light and an oil leak, they came back with a $4000+ estimate including new water pump, hoses, thermostat housing, valve cover gasket, tie rods, switch inside for hazard flasher/locks, drivers side window regulator, drivers side seatbalt pre-tensioner, plugs, oil change, fuel filter, and I forget what else, but the parts prices were very high and the labor was out of this world.
I agreed to get the parts from a buddy who works at Classic and I would do the work. I found that the water pump was in perfect condition, they told her that it had (shaft play) and it was as tight as it was when it came off of the assembly line, the tie rods were in perfect shape, and none of the hoses or thermostat needed to be replaced. Also the labor for the valve cover gasket was just a tick under $400 and they wanted another $110 to change the spark plugs even though the whole valve cover was already off and they were RIGHT THERE.
Anyway, I would highly, highly recommend staying the hell away from that bunch of con artists. It ended up costing her $1800 for me to do the work (and I still made out well), parts, AND four new tires.
