Gas supposibly to go up $1.50 tonight

my gfs dad informed me that gas is supposed to go up tonight at least a 1.50 because of the hurricane, the worker at the gas station told him that tonight walmarts gas is going up that $1.50 because she is going to be the one to raise it.

NOT , dude do you have any common sense? This is when you hear something crazy and decide if its true based on your knowledge and previous experience. If it goes up .50 cents it will still take a week to do so. Even if Ike pounds, they will open our reserves to make up for it to moderate the price, also its an election time the Republicans would not let it happen , election over.

I haven't heard anything on the news about gas going up that much. I filled up tonight for $3.45/gallon at Kroger just in case though.

Ya i have common sense, the attendants at wal-mart were told to raise gas, and no i didn't just hear a rumor, my friend works at the wal-mart that is less than a 1/4 mile from my house at the gas station and he told me to fill up..... and if it's just a rumor then i guess me and the 40 people in line at chevron will be had.

better safe then sorry.

They cannot raise gas prices that much because of a disaster. It's called price gouging and the state attorney general will hammer them. I went through this with hurricane Ivan when I lived in FL back in 04. gas prices went up about .25 a gallon. If they went up more than about .50, the stations would be reported and heavily fined. I highly doubt Wal Mart would be so stupid as to do this.

The price doesn't go up because they know that people want to buy.

It goes up based on speculation that the hurricane is going to disrupt/damage the refineries and/or rigs, thus interrupting the supply of fuel.

Supposedly, the wholesale price of fuel went up by $2/gal today.

That said, I find it strange that they start raising the prices before anything happens to damage the supply, which makes it smell of gouging.

So true, but those from NY have to pay more than us anyway. Like all the time. Especially in the city and LI.
