Here's the scoop on the buy-back. The original owner had some basic mods on it including a piggyback, so he was obviously running higher boost. He apparently was accelerating with the car, intending to shift from 3rd to 4th and hit 2nd. The result was bent valves, primarily on the exhaust side. All 16 valves were replaced under warranty. The car tested out fine after being reassembled. Boost was hitting stock levels without problem. Customer complained that car felt down on power, but nothing could be found on several different visits. It could be the customer was just upset that their new car already had a valve job and didn't want it any longer. Mitsubishi generously bought the car back from him. It's probably a good car, but make sure the power feels like any other EvoX before buying.

Cheers

We seem to be in a time of increasing demand for Evo 8/9's and their used pricing is going up (currently $24k-30k). Dealers around the country want every Evo 8/9 they can get their hands on. They look to pick them up for a "song" ($14k) and sell them for $28k. Do your research before dumping your 03-06 Evo or you may seriously be throwing away $5-10k or more.

Good luck -

i actually drove there today just to look at it...but the car was behind the lot gated. there was an exact same one parked in front of the lot so we got to check that out...then i went around and looked at the car from behind the fence (2 feet away). it looks ok from the outside..i'm about to find out tomorrow when i test drive it.

Nissan is doing the same thing with their Z's. Every three months I would get a letter from them asking to buy my Z back. Well, I ended up trading it for an X. Coilovers and some nice black wheels will make me forget about my past Z

Thanks for the information Mark. That saves me close to a thirty minute drive tomorrow if rush hour traffic is light in the evening. I've had bad luck in the past purchasing a car like that from a well known dealer here in the metroplex that ended up in a long drawn out lawsuit (I won in the end ). I don't like the fact that the guy I spoke to over the phone failed to inform me of the complete true history of the car last night as I'm sure he's fully aware of it, so with that in mind I'm going to have to pass on this even though it could possibly be a good car. Let us know how it feels Reggiesd and be sure to have them pull up the service history of the car by it's VIN. Good luck if you decide to purchase it.
