Car went BOOM!

I had a bad experience last Monday driving down to Houston for the holidays. While under full boost, the car went BOOM! At first I thought it was a backfire, but that was not the case... The car ran fine, so I continued on my journey, taking the back roads all the way down for a fine afternoon of twisites. After a couple of minutes, I noticed that the water temp gauge had jumped up to HOT, so I took it out of gear and was beginning to slow down to pull off the 2-lane country road. As I was rolling, the temp dropped dramamtically, so I put it back in gear and drove another 30 seconds. That allowed me to coast into the booming metropolis of Venus TX. It was there that I discovered that I did not have any antifreeze left in the cooling system, it was all over the back of the engine bay. With the outside temp hovering at 30 degrees, I had to get a flatbed to take me and the car back home so I could catch the last plane out for the night.
Well, I'm back in town, but it is the end of the quarter and I should be working quite a bit through Wednesday. I hope to get under it on Thursday to assess the damage, hopefully nothing too bad. The engine still runs and idles fine, but will stay parked until I can get new radiator and heater core hoses, and fix whatever leaked. I'll keep y'all posted...

Compression test just to be safe. And check the oil for any coolant/metal shavings. Good luck man!

Checked the oil, no issues.. The car runs and idles fine, I drove it up/down onto the flatbed, not too worried about the motor. I will check the compression though the next time I go over to KevinDs.

Sorry to hear that Jim, but it sounds like all will likely be ok. Give me a call if I can help in any way.

Same happen to me!!!!! I did a WOT pull *on a closed track* and noticed alot of white smoke behind me.. lost my heat and the temp gauged sky rocketed... Popped my hood to see coolant over the whole back of the motor! Mine was a hose that runs from the back of the block to the throttle body. Missed it on the 1st inspection, then found it when re checking all the hoses. Had a 2" slice like I cut it with a razor blade. Hope yours is that simple too.

Hope it's something minor.

My car did something similar when I was racing an 04' Cobra back in LA. Turned out that the water pump blew. I also had coolant everywhere.

It's probably just the freeze plug on the water pump. Same thing happened to me a while back.
