TX: Austin, looking for good help with troubleshooting and installs

My car has been a ongoing project for years now and it's beyond time that it should have been finished. I bought a car from a friend after it had been in a wreck and it has since had all of it's bodywork completed. However, when the car was to be totalled several of the aftermarket parts were pulled from the car before it was sent to the insurance yard. I'm looking for someone (hell, a few people works too) who are would help me get these items reinstalled and get the car running / set up properly again. I would prefer to get a group of EVO enthusiast to just come over and help me learn more about wtf is in my car, but at this point I am also willing to just pay to get it on the road again.

If you're in the area and interested in helping me I am looking to do the following:

Reinstall blitz SBC
Hook up turbo timer
Reinstall Defi controller and guages
Locate and eliminate all boost and vacume leaks

I'm down. I have a boost leak tester, and I've wired all of those up in my car except the defi unit, should be cake though.

Thanks to Jake for coming over and helping get the car hooked up again. Fortunately I wasn't as lost as I thought I'd be reinstalling electronics to an already modded car.

I was pretty excited that the car was running well and we were able to get it together with minor leaks from the intercooler. Unfortunately, after a couple of small trips around the neighborhood I am definitely having clutch engagement issues. I'm unsure if it's the clutch itself or the slave cylinder giving me the problems. Either way, it was quite disappointing after spending 6hrs working on the car to find it has another problem and yet again needs more work to be put into service.

I meant to get back to you about that clutch issue. I'm wondering if it's something with the slave/bleeding it, throw out bearing, engagement point for the pedal...something like that. Is it making any noise?

I adjusted the pedal both in and out to see if I could get it to stop slipping, but that didn't really have any effect. I'm thinking I'll get a steel braided clutch line and make sure the pill has been removed. I'm hoping it has something to do with the hydraulics since I really don't want to have to replace the clutch.

It doesn't make any noise. When we took the car out it seemed to slip slightly under boost, but had enough clamping power to spin the tires in 2nd. Seems to me several pulls at 22-26psi would have had the clutch slipping then if it's the clutch itself. Later, after sitting while I cleaned up the wiring and vacumed the car out I took it for another drive around the neighborhood. The clutch was slipping by the 2nd block and i had to very gingerly drive it back to the house, all without ever hitting boost. Makes me think fluids need to be flushed and that there might be a problem with my clutch line. Perhaps that's just wishful thinking, but stands to reason in my book.

I read in a thread on another forum (here) that there is an inspection hole where I can look at the clutch without dropping the tranny. I'm going to try to locate that and do a visual to at least try to figure out what clutch is in the car. Maybe on some jackstands I can see if there's any obvious problems coming directly from the clutch.

If it's the stock clutch, it's probably going out. either way if it's slipping rather than pedal/hydraulic malfunction, it's probably time for a new one. Let me know what you can find out.

I'm not in the same boat as you quite yet. I've got a "normal" lancer, and I'm collecting parts to put a 16g turbo on it by the end of the summer. I don't mean to hijack your thread....but if you meet up with some nice people, and you guys feel like helping me out in exchange for help on whatever you've got...I'm down. I'm also handy with computers too (like dell, gateway etc...not ecu's), just if you need anything in that ballpark. Good luck with your evo though, and hopefully a lot of Austin guys will start popping out of the wood-work.
