Zain (the guy that dynoed our cars at t/c.com said manual is better because electronic boost fluctuates too much. duhhhh - that sounds logical.

MBC vs EBC
Generally, on smaller turbos (< 20G), there will be very little performance gain from a MBC as compared to an EBC. But when larger turbos come into play, and EBC will put a MBC to shame.

An EBC allows the waste gate to be shut ALL the time until the desired boost level is reached, at which point it opens the waste gate to keep the boost pressure constant. A MBC, on the other hand, will immediately start opening the waste gate and continue to do so until the desired boost level is reached.

Thus, with a MBC, you have a small boost leak the entire time. usually, the major deciding decsion usually lies in the fact that an MBC is much cheaper than any EBC.

DIY MBCs
We have been making "ball and spring" MBC for quite a while now and have more than enough supplies if you guys are interested. I think the raw materials come out to be around 8 or 9 dollars a single MBC. Since you guys are our 4G63 bretheren, just hit me up at the spot and Ill hook ya up.

BCS
Not sure if the EVOs, like the DSMs, have Boost Controll Selenoids or not, but on the DSMs, you can remove a small restriction in the BCS that will up the stock boost by a little. Not sure if it applies to yall, but thought I would through that out there just incase

See Yall at the spot,

-J

This particular trick involves relocating the boost reference line from before the intercooler to after the intercooler......In short take the boost reference vacuum line off the turbo nipple and cap the turbo nipple. Lengthen the vacuum line and tee it into a vacuum source on the intake manifold.

The result is a 2-3 psi boost increase in performance.

Why?..............The intercooler will drop the pressure of the air intake charge through its cooling effects, thus insted of the ECU seeing 19-16 psi (before the IC) and approximately 16-13 psi in the intake manifold .........it now sees 22-19 psi at the turbo and 19-16 psi at the intake manifold.

I have a few more tricks to share in upcoming evo meets....stay tuned.....

Mario

P.S. these tricks were not my original idea just adaptations from pass experiences with other cars, both imports and domestics.

I would go with a mbc, you can pick up a dejon tool for about $50 from www.roadraceengineering.com The tool works wonders. The stock boost solenoid is not very accurate. You can go with a ebc, but those imo don't hold boost as well as the manual boost controllers.

Wow...this thread was initiated over a year ago. I have since gone to a EBC and I am unable to provide pictures. But PM me if you need further clarification on this mod.

Regards,

Mario
